How I've Made My Android Phone Feel Very "Microsoft" / Windows 10 Mobile

Evening all, I'm glad this post has helped some to find a new way to look at Android. Of course you can't beat the original (true WP/W10M), but I'm glad some are satisfied with the 'simulated' version. :) For me, I'm looking for new hardware; the Sony camera isn't cutting it. The Nokia 7 Plus...

Photos App + OneDrive Only Photos = !

Well, it is good to know I'm not the only one I guess. What is odd is that pictures I took this weekend now don't exhibit this behavior, but the time range mentioned above still do.

Photos App + OneDrive Only Photos = !

Hello all, I've loved the Windows 10 photos app on both the PC and W10M since it came out. It fits my needs exactly and is one of the highlights of the OS (and one of the main things I miss when I moved to Android). For the first time since I've been using it, however, I've run into a problem...

    Gigabyte AERO 15?

Hi Dan, I wasn't sure if you've seen or planned on reviewing the Gigabyte AERO 15? It intrigues me as it is a 'gaming' laptop yet still has a mature look to it (especially if you get the all black one) and reasonable battery life. Seems competitively priced for the specifications and the...

    Custom HOSTS file.

WP Internals 2.3 has landed! I plan on hooking it up tonight. Is the HOSTS file in the same file location as it is with other versions of Windows? C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

    Custom HOSTS file.

Thanks! I'll await WP Internals and hopefully it will be pretty straightforward to edit the hosts file. Web browsing will be so much faster.

    Custom HOSTS file.

Has anyone ever figured out how to drop in a custom HOSTS file on W10M?

How I've Made My Android Phone Feel Very "Microsoft" / Windows 10 Mobile

Honestly I do not recall; I think I just ended up typing the right phrase in Bing and found a collection of Lumia sound files that all work great.

How I've Made My Android Phone Feel Very "Microsoft" / Windows 10 Mobile

I'm using a widget provided by Weather Underground and have the background set to 'transparent'.

No problem. SquareHome 2 does offer transparent tiles, and actually two or three variations of them in the way they are implemented. You can do exactly what you want. I prefer the old-school WP8 look and thus that is why you see that in my screen shot.

How I've Made My Android Phone Feel Very "Microsoft" / Windows 10 Mobile

Hi Keith - I have not found a good lock screen to make it look like W10M yet, but the stock lock screen on my Xperia XA1 Ultra with a custom picture is fairly close in its simplicity. Don't use Microsoft's "Next" lock screen, though... that thing sucked my battery life like crazy and offered...

How I've Made My Android Phone Feel Very "Microsoft" / Windows 10 Mobile

I think pinning contacts to the home launcher is launcher-specific, as SquareHome 2 allows you to create tiles to direct dial specific contacts or start up your SMS app with a specific contact which is great. I have a few of mine setup like this, but I'm not using Launcher 10. The way I created...

How I've Made My Android Phone Feel Very "Microsoft" / Windows 10 Mobile

Yep. The brilliance of Cortana integration via Bluetooth in a car is that it is a phone conversation with Cortana. So, Windows Phone automatically takes advantage of your car's systems that pause/mute whatever audio input you're using in your car to allow you to have the "phone conversation"...

How I've Made My Android Phone Feel Very "Microsoft" / Windows 10 Mobile

I posted about this a bit ago as the main feature I'm missing from W10M. I think as you mention the big difference between Cortana and the others is the fact that Siri/Google require the media/BT connection to be the active source in your car to be useful, and Cortana never did; just use her...

How I've Made My Android Phone Feel Very "Microsoft" / Windows 10 Mobile

No, and this is sorely missed. I really enjoyed Cortana asking if she should read or ignore texts as they came in while driving, but I'm getting used to not having this anymore. Textra does light up the screen when locked with the text which helps (stock SMS app didn't do this), but it isn't as...
