I can't help but think that for what I would have to scrape up for a 950XL, I would be 2/3 of the way to the cheapest Surface 4.

Me too. Everywhere phones are being sold, I see big displays for iPhone and Android but nothing for Windows phones.

My contract with Verizon runs out in April 2016. I hope by that time something is worked out for financing the 950xl or an alternative comes along.
