The Windows Phone App Gap Thread

re: Is there really an app gap on WP? Re: the aggression towards those who switched but still post here. I can only speak for myself but I imagine this is the case for others as well - even though I've switched - in my case extensively to Google devices and services - doesn't mean a) I don't...

The Windows Phone App Gap Thread

re: Is there really an app gap on WP? But here is our (more on topic) disagreement. The iOS and Android app programs require that the developers (very easily) "port" their apps to Windows... and I'm not convinced that will happen. Especially when you consider that Amazon's Fire devices...

The Windows Phone App Gap Thread

re: Is there really an app gap on WP? Yeah - but the point of this thread remains - maybe in 15 years, using a Microsoft powered phone will allow you tap into the vast universe of platform agnostic apps on your phone and watch and tablet and AR/VR glasses, etc. But today? Or even in 2 or 3...

The Windows Phone App Gap Thread

re: Is there really an app gap on WP? Then why haven't they already? If it was so lucrative to develop a web based version of Snapchat and cut out their development costs, why haven't they? I hardly think it leverages any technology that isn't available via the web currently. But while...

The Windows Phone App Gap Thread

re: Is there really an app gap on WP? Just because much of the function of native apps is possible in web apps (or will be at some point) that doesn't mean that native apps will be phased out - it doesn't make it practical. If you are the dev behind the Snapchat app, what benefit to do you...

The Windows Phone App Gap Thread

re: Is there really an app gap on WP? This is a perfect example of what I was suggesting with my router/Target/TV comment. For me, and I expect most users, it isn't that one or a few big apps are missing - its that you are excluded from the vast and growing app ecosystem that is EVERYWHERE...

The Windows Phone App Gap Thread

re: Is there really an app gap on WP? I made the switch from WP to Android (in fact, from all Microsoft to all Google) a few months back. If you want to read about it you can check it out at https://medium.com/@mikeburns/from-microsoft-to-google-the-switch-52cd9aeb29a?source=latest I don't...

    Can't connect to PC

Whenever I connect my phone to a PC I get a USB device not recognized message. I tried with different cables, including the original, on a few different PCs, after a hard reset, after installing the WP app from the App store and also the desktop app, even the HTC sync app. HTC support had...

Ongoing issues with Denim on the ICON...

It isn't going to be the lack of apps that makes me switch, it is going to be this bull$hit. I have an HTC M8 with Windows (that I used until the Denim update) which does the same stuff. Sometimes can't connect to Wifi, sometimes cell data stops working, Xbox music sometimes works. It is just...

Ongoing issues with Denim on the ICON...

After a couple weeks without the wifi ceasing to work, it has started doing it again. Shows not connected, shows correct networks in location, when trying to connect to network (known or not) gives can't connect error, try again later. Reboot fixes it, but if I wanted to restart my phone a...

Windows 10 Mobile: The Beginning or the End?

It isn't about what Snapchat or any other app specifically does, or how useful or not useful it is, its about what is on the platform. People use Snapchat and Instagram and so on, but also (like they pointed out on Windows Weekly yesterday) they use weird specific apps that are important to them...

Windows 10 Mobile: The Beginning or the End?

I agree wholeheartedly. But my concern is also exactly this - what DON'T you find in the Fire store? Snapchat, Instagram, Periscope, Meerkat, Google apps. etc.

Windows 10 Mobile: The Beginning or the End?

This sort of shows, at a high level, how easy the porting is. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DJTbkh-OsXM

Windows 10 Mobile: The Beginning or the End?

Regardless of whatever emulation is/isn't going on (what was that about a subsystem in the keynote?) my takeaway was that devs will be able to take iOS and Android apps, drop them in VS, and easily produce something they can publish in the Windows store. End users will be completely oblivious to...

Windows 10 Mobile: The Beginning or the End?

At its most basic level, it's like what they have proposed is a solution for the problem "it's too difficult/takes too much time to bring my app to Windows." But that isn't the problem for most developers. The problem is "I don't care." And that's much harder to fix.
