I found the answer to this, I don't know what did it. I didn't do much to actively troubleshoot the problem but, after a while, I got the feature working again. It may have been the phone being connected to 4G for a while, or it rebooting or some other change, but the option finally ungreyed...

If you give Windows Explorer " \\PCNAME", in the path bar, does it list the shares that way? or does it just say that the machine can't be found on the network? If it can't be found, it sounds like the router in the house may be interfering with the SMB discovery.
