Why Microsoft won't be the company to mainstream generative A.I.

Others have already said this, MS will go the way of IBM. No devices or apps that are consumer focused. I'll keep using Word and Excel, but am currently moving to Google for search, browser, contacts, calendar, email, etc. I would no longer be surprised to see them abandoning all Surface products.

What phone are you using these days?

I started with a Galaxy and now have a Moto Edge. I'll get a new phone this year - maybe. Missing from most new phone spec reporting is hi-res audio streaming which will be a big deciding factor - and the storage for offline streaming. A second factor is optical zoom, which makes the S23 Ultra...

    Edge Image Search option

About a week ago, I was intrigued to see an option to use Edge to search for an image. There was an option to drag and drop and image, or copy paste. And "Try it" suggestions. Which I did try. And it worked really well. However, that option immediately disappeared. And has never re-appeared...

Facial Recognition & Tagging App Recommendations

I'm surprised by your "surprising good" comment about MS Photos. I cannot get it to scan more than a couple of dozen of the several 1,000 photos I have stored on OneDrive. That's why I'm looking for another option. Even willing to pay for a good app.

Facial Recognition & Tagging App Recommendations

As near as I can tell GIMP does not offer facial recognition and tagging.

Facial Recognition & Tagging App Recommendations

Hey Windows Central, what are your recommendations for the best Windows app for facial recognition and tagging of photos. I've been using Adobe Photoshop Elements Organizer for a while. And have never been impressed with its facial recognition & tagging. (And MS Photos has just never really...

2004 Update: Your device isn't quite ready for it

Surface Laptop 2 just got a ton of updates including 2 firmware updates. But still no W10 "04." Hope it arrives before "09." (And why do they even bother using a date or even a season to name these things since they mostly never hit that target.)

2004 Update: Your device isn't quite ready for it

Totally agree. The message implies something is wrong with my computer. But the issue is actually with the update. It should say, "We are pausing release of this update until recently discovered issues are corrected. We apologize for this delay."

What has happened to this website...?!

I'd add Mary Jo Foley, All about Microsoft, as a go to source for news about Microsoft. https://www.zdnet.com/blog/microsoft/

What has happened to this website...?!

It's pretty quiet here now. I used to check WC regularly, but not so much now. Forum postings are now not very fruitful / active / interesting / helpful. But just to be clear, the specific question in the original post was answered in the 2nd and 3rd replies. But that was now over 5 months ago.

    Re-set Surface 3

And it installed the 2004 April/May 2020 update. Not a recommend approach to get it a week early.

    Re-set Surface 3

Decided today I would do a clean re-install of W10 on my Surface 3. The instructions for doing a disk clean said this would make the process longer - possibly hours longer. Glad they warned me. 8 hours in and the progress report shows 23%. Fortunately, this old device is mostly left collecting...

    Online version of Microsoft Word

The online version is in Draft mode. I.e. the footer and header sections are not shown. Click the View tab. The left-most group of actions is Views. Click on the Print Layout option. You can leave it in Draft mode. Your text will paginate according to the gray line shown in your first screen snip.

    Might the DUO be DOA?

I'm wondering what the rumors are about the release of the Duo. Given the pandemic; the massive hit to the economy - i.e. personal and corporate budgets; and disruption of global supply lines, I'm wondering: a) How is this affecting Microsoft's own internal production and marketing processes...
