    update installing

@raydwatts According to many websites (Windows Central included), the 8.1 Update 2 will be coming officially to newer Lumia's only (namely the 640 and 640 XL). If you want it, jump in now.

    update installing

It's via the insider app. Tap on that message to get into the fast ring then when it says you're in, go to phone update in settings and it should find an update. Don't worry it won't be Windows 10.

I've just installed it now on my UK unlocked 930.

"Double Tap to Wake not currently supported by the Icon": MS Mobile Community Manager

DTTW has no issues on my UK Lumia 930 running Denim. That said I echo what people say above about its consistency. My LG G3 nearly always wakes with two taps whereas the 930 seems a bit hit and miss at times.

Any way of getting to Metro IE?

Go to [Power Shell] Start Metro IE from powershell - Pastebin.com and download that script. Rename the extension to .ps1 and right click and open it with PowerShell. This worked in the previous builds of the technical preview, I haven't tested it in the latest build.

Thoughts on these 930's from eBay?

So you'd vouch for that seller then? I only want one to play with the dev preview of Windows 10 as my daily driver is an iPhone 6. These seem ideal but its staggering how many of these 'upgrades' there are on eBay (there must be over 100 of them)!

Thoughts on these 930's from eBay?

I'm after a 930 for the upcoming W10 preview later this month and the only Windows Phone I have left is my 635 which isn't the greatest. There are a hell of a lot of 930's on eBay advertised as 'upgrades from Nokia'. Now its obvious these are refurbs from the brown box packaging and I've...

    Lumia 830 -v- iPhone 6 (mini comparison)

I think you should tweak your review to include the proper information about the processor inside the iPhone 6. The A8 processor trounces the Snapdragon 801 in single core performance and edges it in multicore performance so the difference between that and a Snapdragon 400 is astronomical.

Windows phone 8.1 GDR2 features leaked!

One way they could help with the settings menu mess is to make settings searchable via Cortana. One of the best things Microsoft did with Windows 7 is to make Control Panel settings searchable from the Start Menu. Not just search by the name of the setting, but also by what that setting option...

Do you regret buying a Surface 2?

I love my Surface 2, especially the flexibility it gives me. Having that USB port is a godsend and I love using it as a laptop or tablet depending on my requirement. I do not regret buying it at all. Having said that, I don't think I'll be buying a successor, if indeed that even happens. As you...

730 phone is dead already before it arrives

I think the point that OP is making is that price-wise, WP does not compete very well. People say that its not fair to compare the 635 to the Moto G for example. Some on this forum have said it should be compared to the Moto E. Specs-wise I'd agree, but price-wise, no way. Here in the UK the 635...

Ecosystem isn't Windows Phone's Achilles heel, hardware is

Moto G with a higher resolution screen performs as good if not better than the 635. I know, I have both. Currently the new 4G Moto G is ?10 more expensive than the 635 in the UK and for a 720p screen, 1GB RAM and a front facing camera you'd be daft not to choose that over a 635. (EDIT: And the...

Does the lumia 635 with 8.1 have the third row of tiles?

None of the 635 display phones running the retail demo firmware have the option for the third column of tiles.

is windows phone worth hanging onto?

Motorola stopped the rollout of 4.4.3 for their devices due to an OpenSSL bug found in that version of Android. It has been fixed in 4.4.4 and Motorola will be rolling that out to the Moto G and Moto X shortly.
