    Why Microsoft's Mobile Efforts Failed

My first phone was a WinPhone and I loved the OS, but jumped over to Android when I got my next phone due to lack of WinPhone apps. I'll be due for another phone this fall; is WinPhone basically dead or dying? Any change in the status of apps? I thought I heard of an architecture that would...

I tried it. It doesn't feel the same to me as Windows Phone; it just feels like an add-on with almost no value other than aesthetics (and it misses by a bit on that). What I liked about the WinPhone OS was the unified approach to fonts, styles, etc., in the various utilities and apps. Square...

    Thanks. I'll look into it.

Wow. I think I got about 3 pushes in two years on my 8X. And after being shut off for over a year, there was no update available. Wasn't there some talk about a common standard for apps between Windows and Android that would allow Windows phones to run Android apps?

So I'm back to WinPhone, at least temporarily. My LG G4 bricked. It's a known issue with a connector so LG is supposedly fixing my 16-month-old phone for free (we'll see if that's what comes to pass). When I had to send my Android off, I took my SIM card, plugged it into the old HTC 8X...

re: Is there really an app gap on WP? Hmmm... and why is that? So they aspire to be the Kia of smartphones. If it keeps them around, great, but it's not exactly a compelling narrative to me.

The Windows Phone App Gap Thread

re: Is there really an app gap on WP? This is exactly where I'm at. I jumped in with WinPhone two years ago as my first smartphone. I had a good experience initially, and it seemed like things were improving. Then two things happened: 1. The OS on my phone stopped getting support (I had an...

The Windows Phone App Gap Thread

re: Is there really an app gap on WP? The problem with that is people compare specs and see a big gap between Lumia and LG/Samsung/iPhone and think it simply isn't good enough.

The Windows Phone App Gap Thread

re: Is there really an app gap on WP? To you, maybe. To me, app gap means the apps I want aren't available on WinPhone. This is true: There are a LOT of apps that simply aren't available on WinPhone. The iPhone and Android universes share the majority of their apps; WinPhone exists in a...

The Windows Phone App Gap Thread

re: Is there really an app gap on WP? ...except that people don't use phones and desktop computers for the same things. Without a full-sized keyboard and display, a phone will never be a productivity tool on par with a desktop or even a laptop. It's a neat trick, and I thought it would be an...

The Windows Phone App Gap Thread

re: Is there really an app gap on WP? I get that. It's just that your post I responded to started out, "You don't chose a phone for its app support,..." Don't try to tell me how I choose a phone. It's presumptuous.

re: Is there really an app gap on WP? So it sounds like MS needs to put out a better phone if they want to keep customers. If their product was clearly better, people would buy it.

The Windows Phone App Gap Thread

re: Is there really an app gap on WP? That's my point. My WP was an HTC 8X on AT&T. I don't know who pushed the first update out to me; I suppose it was AT&T. Whether the phone wasn't capable of it or AT&T just didn't bother, I never got a push to 8.1. I was basically abandoned.

The Windows Phone App Gap Thread

re: Is there really an app gap on WP? Disagree. There should be an incentive to use WP. And that incentive should be that WP is clearly better. Clearly, the market doesn't think it is.
