is Celio Corp (i.e. Redfly) slowly dying?

Agreed. And BB users to the forthcoming BB tablet. Or to Windows netbooks, which go with pretty much anything, and are now as small, cheap, and with as much battery life as the RedFly. The BB platform is designed to run well on limited hardware, so it's a much lighter platform than Windows...

is Celio Corp (i.e. Redfly) slowly dying?

Worth mentioning that Android support was demonstrated a year ago, and still hasn't appeared. Not sure on the point... Android doesn't have great appeal in the business community. It's the RedFly's final death throws. Better to let it die with dignity. Most of us have moved on already...

    02/13/2010 - Celio Smartphone Dock

Just watched this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoafdOIGrfE, in which the RedFly dock is described as "available now" (22 Feb 2010). Don't see it on the Celio website... jwebb: You're right. I've noticed a dramatic drop in posts (both by users and Celio people) since the C8 got canned...

    Which netbooks are your buying?

I've finally bought a Lenovo ThinkPad X100e. Huge, by netbook standards (11.6"), but hopefully with enough spec that I don't need a laptop/desktop aswell. All the usual netbook spec (wifi, webcam, bluetooth), plus a dual-core AMD processor and 3Gb memory. Reviews say the batter life is poor...

the end of C8 driver/firmware updates

Yes, I agree with you entirely. Unfortunately, I'm quite ready to buy a netbook just yet, and I'm not changing my phone yet either - yes, I know I've moaned a lot about something that is not yet my problem, but there will be no point complaining about it later! To be fair, they did get Opera...

Is "dara" the Defence Aviation Repair Agency, Development Assistance Research Associates, or Irish comedian Dara O'Briain?

Even better... post the questions on the forum, then other people can benefit from the answer. Graham.

Redfly and remote PC, realistically usable?

The RedFly does have a certain appeal for travelling, because it's cheap and feels very rugged. You won't be worried about shoving it in an overhead locker, even knowing that someone who gets on after you will have brought their entire life in their handluggage, will arrive late (when the...

    Redfly and the IPhone?

I think the answer to that would be a pretty resounding "no". Celio's state policy is that there will be no further support and no software updates for the C8. Even the update for supporting BlackBerry and WM6.5 is "use at your own risk". Really, I wouldn't hold your breath for iphone...

Phased out? It was never "phased in"!! :)

the end of C8 driver/firmware updates

Matt, I'm a professional software engineer, and I specialise in mobile phone software. Clearly, software engineering is not your background. The other reason why the firmware would need to be "fixed" is if it's "broken". Unless you're claiming that the firmware is now "perfect". RedFly...

Redfly and remote PC, realistically usable?

I have to agree. The limitations of the RedFly are too many, and the benefits too slim.

the end of C8 driver/firmware updates

It's true that many of us (those of us with Touch Diamonds or Touch Pros) had a succession of beta drivers for some time. But we got great support from Celio in using them, and that's now withdrawn. We would not have got a bricked phone replaced, but each new driver came with a new firmware...

Redfly and remote PC, realistically usable?

Tony... thanks for your PM. Someone mentioned a Dlink wifi access point in this thread, which looks quite a handy piece of kit. The downside is, you're adding price and weight (a decent netbook is only a couple of hundred grammes heavier than a RedFly). If you already have a gadget like this...

Redfly and remote PC, realistically usable?

Since your phone's screen is 640x480, and the redfly is 800x480, you don't actually get much more screen real estate... you just get a bigger picture. Well, you get a little more screen-width, and this does improve the web browsing experience. The main traveling problem I've had with the...
