I only get white noise if I'm connected with the cable, there's no music, and ANC is on. If I'm on Bluetooth, I haven't noticed it. I haven't turned ANC off so I can't comment on how that could affect things.

My 920 gets really warm too when I use Nokia drive, but I've used it for hours straight and it hasn't overheated. I wouldn't worry too much about the 925 overheating. It seems normal from GPS use.

I got mine recently as well for $150. It's a good speaker but a little bass heavy. As for the range, it depends on what's between you and the speaker. If you're in the next room you should be fine, but if there's more than one wall or a hall between you, it would have trouble.
