How two developers are keeping Surface Duo alive — with Windows 11 and Android 14

Thanks for the good interview of these awesome guys. It always amazes me what individuals can accomplish while entire corporations seem to struggle with the same thing. Reminds me of the passion behind the WinoMail project.

Microsoft's Windows Experiences leader also hates this Start menu failing and pushes his team for a fix

There's actually also the very annoying case of newly installed apps. In Windows 10, any newly installed app (Win32 or UWP) automatically shows up at the top of the all apps list. Simple, fast and elegant solution. Immediately visible and accessible on clicking the Start button. You don't even...

EXCLUSIVE: Microsoft readies 'groundbreaking' AI-focused Windows release as new leadership takes the helm

Thanks for all the Windows info Zac. I hope the AI mania is here to stay and really deliver useful functionality. Imagine asking Windows with natural language like "set my desktop background to a gorgeous picture of the Eiffel tower and change every 2 hrs with other great landmark pictures"...

Microsoft Rewards isn't going away anytime soon, but loyalty points continue to drop dramatically

As usual, some people will abuse anything, given the smallest opportunity. The rewards program as others have pointed out, was supposed to be a small perk, a side bonus for using some MS products for activities you'd normally be doing anyway. Regular web searches, online shopping etc. An added...

It's time to admit that Microsoft was right about the Xbox Series S — here's why

I would argue that the second claim is also absolutely true: The optimization innovations that the existence of the Series S is forcing are far better than would have ever been achieved had the weakest console been the PS5/XSX. This is natural and quite self-evident. Human beings typically...

Microsoft has cut back on its more 'experimental' Surface hardware lines

But it can be argued that Surface was responsible for revitalizing the PC market. Before Surface, most mainstream notebooks PCs were plastic garbage. Only Macs had any real 'premium' offerings. Now, Dell, HP, Lenovo, ASUS etc. have commonplace 'premium' products. It's as if Surface injected...

The Xbox Series X 'Brooklin' refresh is dead to me without this feature

The problem is that modern physical games are just glorified plastic cd keys. Their only value today is maybe as a decorative accessory to line your bookshelves (which I don't mind :) ). Can you imagine trying to play the launch version of say Cyberpunk 2077 that was on the physical disk? I...

Surface and Windows lead Panos Panay is leaving Microsoft in major shake up

Guess he headed for a bigger scope and opportunity at Amazon. He may even have greater 'freedom' to do what he wants there, who knows? Wish Panos the best, and thanks for all the Surface goodness.

Xbox fans debate whether Microsoft should drop the Xbox Series S 'feature parity' clause

The developers did not prioritize the Series S. There is no reason Baldur's Gate 3 can't run on a Series S. That would automatically rule out a huge number of PC gamers going by raw specs. If Elden Ring and Halo Infinite can run on the Series S, so can Baldur's Gate 3.

Xbox fans debate whether Microsoft should drop the Xbox Series S 'feature parity' clause

Thanks for this reply. I've been seeing everyone blaming the Series S. But its specs are actually superior to the min PC specs. I wonder how the game has been running on the min PC specs?

Microsoft's dubious positioning of the Surface Duo killed an ambitious vision

MS Office is good software. I'd even say great. Visual Studio is awesome. No other developer tool I've used over the years comes close. Who else is doing what Microsoft does with Windows? It's the only desktop grade OS that is attempting to scale from tablets/touch to desktops and servers. And...

Top 10 Xbox special edition controllers of all time

This made me go back to take a look at my collection of special edition Xbox controllers :-) I would definitely include the 'Sport White' XB1 controller in the list. For some reason, it's been one of my favorites of all time. I'd also consider including - 'Gears 5 - LE controller', 'Minecraft -...

Microsoft will replace Windows 11's terrible Mail & Calendar apps with the new Outlook app in 2024

Thanks a lot for this comment! I thought I was the only person who's been far from impressed with the 'New Outlook Experience'. It's a terrible downgrade from the super-fast, fluid, light, touch friendly (and pinch to zoom friendly as well) Mail and Calendar app. It can't even sync consistently...

6 ways Diablo 4 is going to rule your life

This is hilarious! Very well written, I was laughing all the way through the article :ROFLMAO: Yeah, I'm prepared for Diablo 4!

Microsoft plans to let users pin Widgets to the desktop on Windows 11

In my experience, I still think Live Tiles are a superior implementation of Widgets - if done right. Reference examples of excellent Live Tiles implementation are myTube, Newsflow, Reddplanet (when it was actively developed), and built-in apps like Mail and Calendar, Weather, Photos, MS Money...
