I believe Microsoft is sticking with UWP for the long haul. The latest design guides for apps do look great and like David said, there are new devices coming out which can benefit from UWP. And personally, I believe in the future of them. Build it and users could come...
It might not be Edge but rather the website. I have a 650 as well and it crashed Edge only when I went to a site that was too much for it to handle. What site were you trying to visit?
Have you tried removing the account then signing back in? I had a similar issue but that worked. You could always try to reset the app and/or uninstall and reinstall
You could always find a way to keep using it... I still use my 650 for work and as a reason [excuse] to use W10M. You could use it as a USB, a camera, photo frame, etc...
No need to say goodbye if you don't want to.
I doubt this will be the case for v1, probably since they'd like to see how the market reacts to it and feedback users can have. Maybe the 2nd or 3rd gen might see different sizes...

Anyways, I keep Cortana (app) as default, but I put Cortana on Homepage mode since it's not often enough I use my voice - actually, I use voice more often on my PC. I also keep my Windows phone nearby so just having Cortana launch as similar as on Windows is good for me.

I think Dan talked about that and why that wouldn't work in the long run...
1. The devs would be dependent on payments... So Microsoft would be expected to pay for every update or something...
2. Snapchat just doesn't like Windows...
