I actually hate the new Outlook for Windows

Wow, could hardly disagree more! While yes, I have some small issues with notifications, touch, and performance, the app has actual features. Mail & calendar was barely usable. It wouldn't open emails with actual HTML in them or at least not display them right. No integrations with plugins at...

What would Microsoft's Windows Phone look like in 2024? It's like a micro PC running Windows 12 in your pocket

It seems like almost all of what they showed here could be achieved through an updated MS Launcher with Windows 11/12 design language. That would be great to get. But MS seems to not be updating the launcher at all...

Windows Central Podcast #324: WordPad dies, Windows 11 23H2 reviewed, and more

@Daniel Rubino they way you talk about using WordPad is the way I and probably others use OneNote: a series of semi-formatted notes for saving and sometimes copying/pasting into other places.

Windows Central Podcast #324: WordPad dies, Windows 11 23H2 reviewed, and more

Zac talked about the new backup & restore app. I just tried this with a new PC. I backed up my old PC, which told me it worked - although only partially for my apps, with no explanation as to why. When I did the Out of Box experience on my new PC, it recognized this backup and I selected it...

This change to OneDrive will effectively lower your cloud storage

This is so frustrating. If their back-end approach is storing multiple copies of the photo, that is really dumb. If this is such a big problem, just give us tagging and filtering instead of "albums". 🤬

Microsoft postpones Surface Go 4 with ARM, plans minor refresh with Intel N200 instead

So irritating. Surface Go with ARM could finally be the small windows tablet that Intel chips couldn't make happen.

Windows Copilot, Microsoft's new AI assistant, rolls out to more Insiders

I agree with Zack Bowden - this isn't Windows Copilot, it's Edge Co-pilot, or really kind of just Bing Chat. If Windows Co-pilot were a smarter, more proactive Cortana, it could be awesome. But I really have no interest in Bing Chat.

5 features that would transform WhatsApp for Windows into the DREAM messaging app

My favorite minor thing about WhatsApp for windows is that the notifications and unread indicators sync between the mobile and desktop apps almost instantly. Read a message on on -> it clears on the other right away. Given that Phone Link can't do this (unless you use the inferior Samsung...

Microsoft is changing how notifications appear on the Windows 11 Taskbar

I was one of the people who didn't like the new "0" indicator because it was hard to visually distinguish it quickly in the corner of the screen, with no change in the presence or color of the indicator. So I like that part. But I'm not sure why it required taking away the number. I feel like it...

First look at Windows Copilot: It's actually just Microsoft Edge, not Windows 11

That's pretty disappointing. I'm really not interested in Bing Chat, but an assistant for Windows that surfaces helpful insights could be nice. A bit like Cortana was, of course.

Windows 11 will soon suggest which toast notifications to turn off

Maybe this will suggest that I turn off the Phone Link notifications, since those never actually work to bring up the app and show the message. 🙄

Microsoft plans to let users pin Widgets to the desktop on Windows 11

Eh, after seeing Android widgets, Live Tiles are clearly inferior. Widgets could be a better replacement. If they build them out and put them where people can access them, while keeping a clean UI.

Microsoft plans to let users pin Widgets to the desktop on Windows 11

I get that they want to increase engagement with widgets, which makes sense. But to do this, why not add them where people already go, which obviously seems to be the Start menu! I feel like that is self-evident from the Window 10 Live Tile design, but I think MS is currently so allergic to...

Windows 10 black screen after login

Thanks for the suggestion. I did manage to get logged in at some point after unplugging everything. After that, it has pretty consistently correctly displayed the desktop. As I slowly over time started adding back devices, I found that it seemed like the culprit was my Bluetooth adapter. This is...

Windows 10 black screen after login

Thanks. I can't find explorer in the list of processes, which does seem like a problem. When I run explorer.exe I get this message: "This app can't run on your PC. To find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher."
