I'd like to bump this thread as i'm getting the same error. "Flipboard not avaliable," multiple un and re-installs did not help. It came preinstalled on my Surface 2 and never worked. Any ideas?

Yes, both of the original Touch and Type covers are compatible with the Surface 2. Most people really prefer the Type cover 2, though. Touch covers don't seem to get so much love. Here's a comparison.

The more I'm looking at it the more I see every one of these cases have some sort of cons. I think I'll wait for the FreedomCase to be released and reviews before making my final decision.

Which features make you prefer the Lumia? Also, I've just learned there's Power cover now available for the Surface 2. The additional battery life outweighs it not having backlit keys, being quiet thick and adding some weight. Another + for the Surface.
