I think ux consistency between smartphones and PCs is a joke and a terrible idea. There is a reason iOS is completely different than OSX ( and yet they work perfectly together now ). A universal app like the calendar, calculator or messaging isn't going to fix any of the issues with windows...

Mimicking the PC style on windows phone is just ******* silly. It doesn't work most of the time, at least not as well as windows phone 7/8 did. Navigating and using it was a breeze, and came very naturally for devices as small as phones. Slapping the PC ui makes me think of people publishing web...

I think that goes along way to fixing what is wrong with the app. The buttons look so odd on the bar across the top. I didn't even realize I could swipe left and right at first ( something that usually wouldn't happen if there were the usual visual clues to do just this ) and its so out of place...
