Installed the update, phone won't boot up

The frown is bad news. There are directions for a hard reset but likely it won't reset. I had this problem with a 521. It updated the first day I had it and then went into frown mode. I tried everything. Hard Reset. Draining the battery. New SIM. Didn't matter. Dead. Dead. Dead. Good Luck.

How much do you miss native google services on WP?

I truly hate all their stuff except maps. Its simply god awful product. Here's hoping Nokia becomes the king of maps and 3-d virtual location experience with rich, drill down layers and experiences.

Microsoft should sell a keyboard with built in track pad for XBox 1 for $59.99

Metro Office is coming in 2014. The target for Metro Office on XBox One? First, add a 23" to 27" touch screen monitor. Then place in every High School kids room, College dorm room, and under 30s First Apartment bedroom. Add some decent powered speakers. That's their Media Center. The old...

Is Microsoft getting complacent or just lazy?

The answer is they are a huge company with many irons in the fire concerning Windows Phone and the move towards "One OS to rule them all". I expect the Fall phones will be competitive and 8.1 will be significant. When I see Win 8.1 running on an Atom LTE by Lenovo modeled after the k900...

    Sad face after update

My first 521 bricked during update. The second one was smooth. Do you have a SIM installed and activated? Someone on the net mentioned that as a common cause for update failure.

    Battery Life Thread

Heavy usage on the web and listening to audio? 5 1/2 hours taking a few calls and a little video. That's the worst case scenario I've had. Battery Saver and 1 minute standby? Easy to get through a day with a couple hours of web use and audio. YMMV - 920

Nokia and WP still has a huge marketing challenge! (Samsung stabbing Nokia in Finland)

Its worse during the Holidays in the States. They hire newbies who know only 3 products: all of them named Galaxy. If the user specifically asks for an iPhone they show it. Let the iPhone and Mini sell themselves. Windows Phone? It's one of those other phones they dont stock deep and donlt like...

July 2013 Update / GDR3 (or whatever it will be called) Info

Windows 8 is a 3 year roll out with 8.1. 8.2 and 8.3 coming down the road. As near as I can tell GDR3 will be the critical path items to allow the new "Holiday Hardware" releases to scale and handle 1080P and larger screens. Blue in Q1 2014 will be more feature oriented concentrating on...

    928 v. 920 - Side by Side Comparison.

Good stuff. Obviously not an upgrade. More like a refinement. Waiting to see if November brings the 800 Snapdragon, real Pureview, 1080P with a 5" 441 PPI screen, longer battery life in a similar form factor without sacrificing anything. A 6" tablet even better.

Acer says Windows RT has no value

Get into their BS. They will sell $169 Android tablets because they don't cannibalize their Windows PC market. A $279 7" RT tablet scares them. We've seen the pre-release of their 8" Atom $380 tablet. What we haven't seen is what others are offering

    Best streaming music service?

Go with Free Pandora and Nokia through the end of the year. Try some streaming radio like Slacker. Between them you'll find some good stuff.

16GB not enough for flagship phones

Re: Interesting Galaxy S4 thread on Android Central Lossless Audio eats space! Can't replace an iPOD Classic or Hitachi Gigabeat or Zune 30 with small hard drives.
