    Your UK Experience of Cortana

More of a big city thing rather than UK-specific I guess, but I really don't rate the "nearby places" feature. Just because I live in South East London, I get "hey! Maybe you'll like... THE TOWER OF LONDON SIX MILES AWAY" rather than anything more relevant or closer to home. As soon as you get...

Have you updated 930 to 8.1 update 1?

So I can choose to have them either a) never light up or b) light up all the time. The relevant setting is in the Display settings -> turn on battery saver for display. Assuming it's a bug with GDR1 as already mentioned; could be a bug with the Display app, given the number of problems people...

Are they on even in bright daylight? :0

Have you updated 930 to 8.1 update 1?

I have a small issue since upgrading to 8.1 Update 1 - my touch buttons (Back, Start, Search) never, ever light up anymore. Not even in pitch darkness. It's pretty minor as I can still find them - but occasionally a little disorientating. Has anyone else noticed this? It was definitely fine...

Cortana got the age of the Earth wrong

Last time I checked, 4540 million = 4.54 x 10^9. Cortana is correct, unless you are European and thus interpreting the comma in 4,540 as a decimal point. Cortana uses US numbering systems.

Bluetooth speakers - Do any work with 8X?

I have a pair of Bluetooth headphones which work flawlessly with my 8X. They had to be paired once by going into manual pairing mode - but now whenever i turn them on they automatically connect to my phone. I'm impressed with how well it works, actually.

    Threaded mail no longer...threading...

Yeah, inbox is linked with another (barely-used) Gmail account. I've already tried unlinking them, to no effect. I assume the problem is due to whatever is happening behind the scenes, as it's the same on my Win8 PC (which bizarrely I don't really use for mail, and if I do it's not the Metro...

    Threaded mail no longer...threading...

Yep. :p Tried toggling it, rebooting, toggling the setting on Outlook.com also, nothing works :<

    Threaded mail no longer...threading...

Ok, so this is pretty annoying. I recently took steps to consolidate my mail accounts - I have a fairly old BT Internet mail account (which goes through Yahoo! Mail) which still receives a large part of my mail. I also have a newer Microsoft account address which I'm switching to. Previously...

    Voice Grill Rising

Same here, had it since I got the phone - very small, but noticeable if you're running your finger over it. I was vaguely nervous about whether it would get worse over time, but almost 2 months later it's just fine. Nothing to worry about. ;)

    NewsSpot vs Wonder Reader

Personally I go with NewsSpot because it is slightly faster. Feature-wise they're both pretty complete, and as others have said, it's just down to taste.

    8X & Bluetooth Audio

In the Now Playing screen, if you have a little icon which looks like ((o)) next to the song title, then you're streaming. Otherwise the music is playing locally from the phone. In other news, I got a nice pair of Bluetooth headphones for Christmas (Philips SHB9100/00, I highly recommend them)...

Flaws i've noticed in Windows Phone 8

Firstly, that's no use on an 8X. Secondly, is there an easy way to "put the pdf files on your SkyDrive" without using a computer?

Why doesn't WP8/Bing search answer questions?

Yeah, I've noticed that lack of "natural language"/"contextual" results and found it pretty annoying. Especially as it would be almost Siri-like if they included it. They have really missed a trick. (Seems like the story of WP8...)

Flaws i've noticed in Windows Phone 8

Or maybe, perhaps, I wasn't talking about (or to) you, but rather the obvious culprits who were doing the other things I mentioned in my post. (i.e. taking a small piece of a post and responding to only that piece in isolation - which ironically you did just do 😉) I'd like to point out also...
