Just an update. Phone is 3weeks old now and has just switched off on its own (battery still had juice) 4times. The only way to reset it is to either take out and reseat the battery or sometimes pressing and holding all the buttons for about 5 seconds. Service provider has agreed to swap it out...

The 8 hours estimated on 100% battery was pretty accurate as overnight the battery had drained. Getting back to civilisation he battery is now lasting for more than a day. So I think there is an issue with the software
