Maximizing Microsoft's Technologies for the Suface Phone

Do you think Microsoft will incorporate some of their tech from their other devices/platforms into the upcoming mobile, foldable Andromeda device (and its accessories), such as: 1. Xbox Wireless for first-party Surface earbuds (like iPhone's Airpods and Android's Pixel earbuds); and also to...

So has BUILD basically outlined the future of Windows Phone?

I would say it's the smartphone-form-factor wars that they lost, not so much the "mobile OS" wars, since there will always be a need for one-handheld or pocket-able devices. The OS and use experience will become mobile. That's the end goal. One water-resistant device (in your ear and...

So has BUILD basically outlined the future of Windows Phone?

Thank you for that! I do believe Microsoft is doing a bit of a Trojan horse to win customers to their services' UI and UX on competing desktop and mobile platforms, then when they fully execute Fluent and Mixed Reality they can have the best and most-intuitive services on new form-factor...

ultimate reason to own Surface laptop

I'll have to say 1. OS speed. 2. Portable comfort. 3. Clamshell form-factor (unbeatable combo).

Sooooo, are you going to buy the Surface Laptop or what?

I think it's a matter of preference really. Dan prefers the clamshell design (as he's said so many times), and some of us love the other form factors. That said, the Surface Laptop is also a solid head turner. I think I would buy one if I could. It is solidly built, attractive, and has good specs.

What color will you choose for the Surface Laptop?

Haha. Great question. It's between the Cobalt Blue and Burgundy for me. I seem to be tilting towards the Burgundy though. Such a rich colour. These 4 colours are a nice selection for Microsoft. It follows the Suface Type Covers colour-centric design (which was started way back with Lumia), and...

    Surface GIVEAWAY contestants gather here

I see everyone wants a Surface laptop. Microsoft really needs to keep this in front of people. Market it MS! As for me, I am in need of a new laptop as my aging (office) laptop is showing its age and I need to have something modern portable for my off-site days (many more to come). I write...

Will Windows Central survive the death of Windows Mobile?

Windows Central has become the most critical part of my tech read. I only go elsewhere when I have exhausted your articles (sometimes I even read the product ads!) I have your app pinned to my taskbar and launch it daily on my laptop and also on my (Windows Phone 8.1!) mobile. You guys have...

    Could the Surface Phone Fold?

I watched Episode 1 of Westworld again last night, and the support teams' mobile terminals were just the perfect size and lightness (in the actors' hands). MS may have the patent but can they deliver, in time and in a compelling way?

Is lack of apps the real WP problem?

I am on Windows Phone 8.1 Update (I know, unsupported) on Lumia 630 dual SIM (I know, low-end). Even though it's a several-years-old OS I am relatively comfortable with it. I prefer it to Windows 10 Mobile, which I used for some months before it crashed my phone and I had to revert to status...

Are you satisfied with Microsoft's "retrenchment" mobile strategy?

Retrenchment means "becoming invisible" in this case. And now they want to be invisible in their own stores too (at least on phone). "Mobile first" is not a true statement. Maybe he should clarify as "mobile experiences, not devices, first". "Cloud first" seems to be accurate with Office 365, etc.

    Is Microsoft Listening?

Re: Is Microsoft Listening? I don't think so.......... The lesson I'm learning here is not to invest my valuable emotional energy into fantasizing about what could be, and the potential of Windows on phone (or even Windows in general). Microsoft can kill this platform anytime without warning...

Is DeX the end of Continuum and by Extension Windows Mobile?

Exactly! A hard slap! How well can a software (or other) company deliver on its innovation and quickly iron out teething issues before the competition can catch up? Microsoft has shown time and again (except for Teams recently) that they often don't do so well in pioneering things. The UI for...

    Is Microsoft Listening?

As long as Microsoft cannot get (or mandate) its staff - especially the developers - to use its mobile platform (even as work-only phones), they'll never be invested enough to resolve the problems with the platform.

Is DeX the end of Continuum and by Extension Windows Mobile?

OK, so I just read that Samsung is launching DeX (their Continuum-competing feature) with the soon-to-arrive Samsung Galaxy S8. From initial looks and initial reviews on other tech sites, they have a solid (not perfect) product, which will help the S8 to sell even more. Perception is king. Is...
