After a week of debating what to do I have today purchased a Lumia 950 with the sole aim of keeping me going for 12 months to the next decision point. I looked at Andriod and towards the Google Pixel but my heart was not in it. Windows 10 Mobile user for 2018 at least.

...but unable to move to 1709 FCU. I know it is not a supported device but should I be able to move to 1709? The 640 is not supported either but Windows Insider moved it to 1709 some time ago.

Lumia 640 as the out-and-about mobile and Lumia 640XL in the house. My short-term plan is to get a used 950 to see me through the next 12 months which will either be the death or rebirth of WM.

24 hours in and sure is a smooth experience on 15237, only issue is battery performance (Lumia 640). Today the phone has been on the desk and only browsed the news app at lunchtime and a full drain in 8 hours (that's 7hr50min on standby). One thing I noticed was that when force closing apps...

Eventually got to 15237 after 2 hours, things appear to be normal on the email live tiles for me. 2 new email notifications showing, open mail app, close email app, notification number has gone as normal.

I did notice that the L640 ran a lot smoother after the hard reset, the first one I had done in 2 years, so despite the effort of re-registering some apps it was worth it overall.

Only a hard reset fixed that issue for me back in June 2017. Unfortunately the batch of pictures that I had taken over the weekend prior to the "saving" problem were very low quality thumbs. I would recommend the hard reset, if only to regain quality of future pictures.

The size of the download (currently updating to 15237) is starting to become a real pain, and I envisage that this will be the last time I will bother. The normal route for me is unistalling FB/Messenger/Instagram downloading the update and reinstalling the apps. For 15235 (slow) and 15237...

Message received from Barclays this afternoon saying that they are aware of the Windows 10 Mobile Creators Update problem and their teams are working on a fix.
