Try Nokia Software recovery tool . Download on Windows 7 or newer and connect to the phone. It will erase all of your phone data and install clean and new os from nokia.

Re: my nokia 520 battry problem and boot problem It might be updating process or hard reset process. Plug in charger and wait , if it still on that try nokia software recovery tool. Or it may be lose battery put a small paper in battery side.

Try soft reset by pressing volume down and power but for 15 sec.

I am also facing this issue i updated my nokia Lumia 520 via Nokia software recovery tool . Now my battery life is maximum 2:30 hours continues use . Before cyan update i can use my phone 5 hours continues.

I am saying about cellular data connection. In airplane mode all the services are turn off . And you will able to receive calls message etc. Whenever you need to turn on data connection you go to the settings to turn on and off the internet connection. It will be easy to switch on and off...
