HELP! I've tried almost everything I can think of and I can't get the firmware to update!

Sorry for the bad news, but it sounds like you got a bad unit, you need to exchange it.

    Suggestion for the SB2

I've seen a couple of articles on this same subject re: the next gen SB. I hope they aren't true, or at least that maybe MS is making a lower end unit without the 2-in-1 functionality alongside the detachable units. I would absolutely miss the 2-in-1 functionality and would be really upset to...

Surface Book at 1 Year - Finally a sense of stability!

I still have my Surface Book bought on launch day at my local MS store. I don't remember exactly when it made the transition, but at some point about mid-last year, my machine finally became the machine I'd hoped for when I bought it. I use it exactly as I originally envisioned -- detaching the...

    Crazy display issue!

Definitely a hardware issue. I saw this same thing happen on a replacement Surface Pro 3 awhile back. MS took it back and sent me another.

New Surface Book with Performance Base i7/16GB/1TB shutdown overnight while in Sleep Mode

I can understand your frustration, but don't be ticked at the advanced replacement process that requires a credit card -- it's been that way with every company forever. I did it a few times with Western Digital for hard drives back in the day. That said, I've used that advanced replacement...

New Surface Book with Performance Base i7/16GB/1TB shutdown overnight while in Sleep Mode

Interesting. Maybe run diagnostics on the SSD (looking for errors), since windows does use drive space as scratch memory ... otherwise, you might consider a clean install of Windows. I would think you'd be seeing other forms of corruption, though. Odd.

New Surface Book with Performance Base i7/16GB/1TB shutdown overnight while in Sleep Mode

Sounds like you should run a memory diagnostic. Windows has one built it, but some say it isn't as good as using memtest. If a memory test returns a lot of errors, then you need to get your machine replaced as you probably have some bad RAM.

Excessive battery consumption while in Sleep mode

I see this off and on on my Surface Book (older version, not the i7 Performance Base) -- some days it drains excessively, other days it's fine.

After my Surface Book entered Sleep Mode it crashed with PDC.SYS being the cause

This may sound like a stupid question, but have you installed (successfully) all updates (firmware, drivers, windows)? These errors used to happen frequently on the Surface Book, but that was when the firmware was still very unstable around this time last year.

Surface volume down does not work

Glad to hear it's getting replaced! =)

surface book 2 or new suface book I7

At this point, personally, I'd be waiting for the SB2, but that depends on how dire your needs are. If you need it now, go for the newer performance base model. If you can wait, I would. MS is bound to do an even better job on the next generation of Surface Books.

Suddenly the Windows Store stopped working open and close right away

The last time this happened to me, it was a problem on MS's side. That could be the case here. If not, try opening an admin command prompt and typing "wsreset" (this will reset the windows store and launch it when finished).

New Surface Book with Performance Base i7/16GB/1TB shutdown overnight while in Sleep Mode

It's part of MS's windows debugging tools: https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/windows-driver-kit Scroll down to the WinDbg area and you'll see this: That's basically all you need. Note that you need to launch it as administrator in order to analyze a crash dump file.

Surface volume down does not work

But if the physical button does not work, why bother troubleshooting beyond that? It is clearly a hardware issue unless the OP somehow magically disabled only part of the hardware button (and I don't even think that's possible).

New Surface Book(11-29-2016) with Performance Base i7/16GB/512 SLOW internet

Prior to the SB, I had a Surface Pro 3, which I loved. And MS kept updating the Wi-Fi driver in part because of the 5GHz nuts who complained that it didn't allow them to force a 5GHz connection all the time. I was always like "why?!?!" It reset my Wi-Fi settings once because these people just...
