Band reminds me of the Kin

I've had the Band since day one. It's always felt familiar. At first, I thought it was the bezel that reminded me of those cheap laptops/netbooks from several years ago. Then today, I noticed a +1 bubble pop up as I was scrolling through emails on my Band. It occurred to me that the bubble notifications look very much like the Kin's UI.

My daughter's first cell phone was a Kin ONE. Sure enough, the Band has the same scratch loving plastic black bezel and screen as the Kin ONE. And the UI seems very similar, with some Metro influences.

I love the Band. I'm just hoping it doesn't turn out to be a short-lived experiment like the Kin.

I suspect it won't be like the Kin. The Kin was conceptually a smart idea when it attempted to take the best of social and bundle it in a single package but much too foreign a concept for bloggers, most of which still couldn't figure out Windows XP updates. The Band is a much better product but still has some growing to do.
