Terrible naming...

I get that Microsoft is trying to break into the junk phone market (<$60) with the Lumia 530 but they should have called it the Lumia 430.
When people look at phone line up, they see that 530>520 and think that 530 is an upgrade over the 520 when in fact it is a huge downgrade.
The Lumia 530 is bigger, thicker (even though same screen size), slower (don't be fooled by the GHz and the core count, it's CPU and GPU are very slow), barely usable (4 GB storage!? no proximity, light sensors!?)
It is very much the definition of a junk phone.
By naming it the 530, Microsoft will disappoint a lot of consumer because they think they're upgrading when in fact they're getting a downgrade.
The L520 is a fine device, L525 even closer to perfection. It's very disappointing that they decide to continue it up with the 530. Even the 630 can't be considered an upgrade of the 520.

The L520 at launch was like $180-$200 and this L530 will hit less than $100. With that price difference at launch is clear that the L530 is not a upgrade, just a replacement for the L5xx series.

Since MS is going to end the Asha and Nokia X phones, makes sense to replace those series with ultra budget Lumia phones like the L530 and L630-635.

Fun fact, Palm, with it's lineup of higher end PDAs did this.
Palm Tungsten T
Tungsten T2
Tungsten T3
Tungsten T5

wait what?

I still am very concerned about those looking for the "upgrade."
But I like the naming convention, keeps things simple for me.

I kinda get the concept of the last two digits determining which OS it came with (10 = WP7.x, 20 = WP8, 30 = WP8.1) but they made it all screwy with the 800 and 900.

So now it just doesn't make sense to me. I think they're trying to make 500/600 series low-end, 700/800/1300 mid-range, and 900/1000/1500 high-end but I could be wrong.

It also bothers me that the 1300 has a higher number than the 900 and 1000 series even though I would consider it inferior (although I understand they wanted to make it closer to the 1500 because of size.)

The only upgrade from the 520 is that, they are dropping the price even lower...only problem is that the Moto E is already waiting there for competition ...

The 4GB isn't going to be much of a problem, first, you can Always extend up to 128 GB, also, the Lumia 530 might ship with Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1, which supports OS Compression, result is that Windows Phone will take much less space than it takes now.

This is not necessarily true. Following that criteria Lumia 710 should be better than Lumia 620 which is not true. They are just starting over with the 500, 600, 700, etc series with the next "numbering". Like the first generation of WP 8.1 powered handsets but they do not need to be necessarily better thant its predecessors.
