Why am I unable to add numbers to existing contacts?

I am facing problem in saving contacts.

Hi, I am using Microsoft Lumia 540. I am facing problem in saving contacts. Whenever I am trying to save any additional number to an existing contact name, there is a prompt,'you already have a number saved as this phone number type. Do you want to replace it with the new number.' Please help.

People > select existing contact > Edit > (+) phone > choose type of additional number (eg. mobile 2) > write new number > save
