Yes. By "unbranded" we meant that it's not locked to any carrier - that any SIM can be used with it.

The info is out there... However, since it costs $19 USD to get a Developer Account and Developer Unlock your handset, most won't care to. I would not pay $19 to change a carrier splash page... I went through the process of getting the Hack installed to help pankaj981 test his debrand method on Lumia 830 RM-983. It did not work unfortunately, but I thought that was worth a $19 gamble...

Changing the splash screen is explained inside the tool. It's just a toy I played with since I had already paid the entry fee.

Seems a lot of work. Though my phone is a country variant the same effort may be required. I dreamt of a custom boot and logon screen like I used to do on PC!

You can sideload CustomPFD Registry Editor + Tweaks onto W10M. That has Custom Boot Picture under Tweaks Page/General Tweaks.
PS. to express my anger at ATT handling of the L830 updates I made these two that worked on my L830.

I have not tried this myself on my unlocked 640XL since there is no annoying carrier logo, but will try to do this this weekend. My guess is that paths are different and it won't work without going into the registry.
