its just a new phone
model:microsoft lumia 640xl
the phone suddenly gets switched off and then restarts immediately.why?

perhaps your phone is installing updates in the background and as part of it, it restarts.

I had this issue as well with my 640 XL. The battery does not seat well within the phone, so i placed two one inch wide pieces of toilet paper on top of the battery under the back cover. Its not a pretty fix, but it is effective. You may also need to wrap the paper around the end of the battery opposite to contact prongs to ensure a snug fit. Doing this should prevent the battery from losing connection and powering down the phone.

No, Windows Phones don't update like that.

Try out that battery trick first.

That don't work? Use the Windows phone Recovery Tool. (which will erase data)

Still reboots randomly? Take it in for warranty exchange at MS. be sure to let them know you've used the Recovery Tool, and you may have to ship the phone back to them twice depending.

could be related to this. runamuck had problems with his 640xl rebooting and found out that it was likely the cover not sitting correctly on the phone and somehow pushing the power button. Maybe just reseating that will work. worth a try.
