No Warranty on MS products?

Scott M: Correct. We don't really provide a free warranty. If it makes you feel better, lumias are pretty tough
You: I have one, a 928. great phone but if I drop $600 on a phone I expect the manufacture to stand behind it for more than 30 days.
Scott M: Understandable. We sell sell cases for them that protect them
You: So if I bought a SP 4 a Surface Book and a 950XL, and they all malfunctioned 31 days after I bought them...too bad for me?
Scott M: No. We sell extended warranties
Scott M: For at least 2 out of 3 of those. Im not sure about the 950XL
You: Oh, you will sell a warranty for how much on the 640XL and the 950

Scott M: I know we do for all surface products, though. And I cant check for the 950 until its out
You: I'm a MS fan but...it's unbelievable they don't warranty their products.

I think the rep got confused with a 30 day return policy.
Did you even talk to a Microsoft rep?

I've done some research and these are the terms.
Support - manufacturers limited warranty terms - Microsoft - USA

- 12 months for main device
- 12 months for separate accessories not including below
- 6 months for batteries, covers, cables and chargers

(I know at least the 830 still has a traditional longer-than-30-day warranty)

Wow. That rep is wrong. I purchased my Lumia not from Microsoft...and I was able to send it in for repair because it showed that I was still in warranty. I don't know when the warranty begins but I'm sure there's a line somewhere.

It is the law that here in Southern Europe the customer has a 24 month warranty. The UK it's 12 months. I suspect the OP was speaking with a person who confused warranty with the 30 day return policy?

Most people who live in an EU county are protected by EU laws and the least warranty I know of is 12 months for such devices.

Most important is to purchase from a reputable dealer. Some small shops will do all they can to avoid their legal responsibilities.
