Why does my Lumia 640 keep going to vibrate?

my lumia 640 keeps going to vibrate.

I try not to hit the volume button but all of a sudden I notice that I have several voice mails even though the phone has not rung and the volume is on vibrate. I try to keep the volume control on 4 or 5 and I have no idea how to stop it from changing. I don't know why this is happening, Any ideas?

I've had that happen on several phones, since the keys only require a soft touch. When I put my phones in cases, the problem went away, since the buttons need to be pressed harder when using a case.
