Whatsapp notifications on 640 not working?

I don't seem to be getting consistent new message notifications from whatsapp on my 640, and sometimes none at all - I go to conversations and the other person has sent messages which only load when I switch to the app. I've got everything set for the app to run in the background and for all notifications to be on, but it's quite annoying. Am I missing a trick? I've only had the phone less then a week - Android convert - so it's an entirely new system to me and one I concede to not knowing a lot about.

Did you try reinstalling whatsapp?
