Ditto. I'm serious ****-hurt that MS is not allowing us to do it online. This is a MAJOR fail for them to accurately gauge interest.

Pre-ordered both of them yesterday night at the store near my home. The charge shows up initially and then they get their internal CS Rep to reset it to zero. You are not charged until you go to pick up the device.

When you say both are you including the 950? If so, I think I'm going to preorder it. Was at the Microsoft store just today and saw the 950 XL, but not the 950. Not having to pay to pre-order is nice.

I wish though that the online MS store offered pre-orders for the 950 as well as the 950xl. I'd much rather buy it from them than AT&T and order now.

Yes I placed two orders last night at the Microsoft store. One for 950XL and one for 950. Good luck.

Just placed black xl in ms store. They told me it was actually available for pre-order online for minutes after the launch announcement but sold out immediately. I checked didn't see it.

yeah... I don't think they ever offered it online as I was on there through most of the keynote and never saw anything but the email notification form (but I suppose I could have missed it). guess I'll have to go and pre-order myself at the local store.

I'm still holding out hope that they will do this - use AT&T as the only carrier that sells it in cellphone stores, but sell it unlocked and without carrier affiliation in other stores. I don't think it will happen, but a few (Motorola, Sony, BLU) already do at Best Buy. However, those are less expensive phones. Not sure if a $650 phone would be viable for that purpose yet (maybe MS could work out some interest free option like the carriers have).

Microsoft will almost certainly sell these at Best Buy since they have a retail agreement with them. Patience....

Feeling spoiled with having two MSFT stores within 15 min of me and a 3rd on up in SF. I preordered a Black XL.

The closest MS store for me must be a plane trip away. It's not so common here in Slovenia, Europe... But i'd buy it at MS store if i could, or i'll just wait for my carrier to get it, usually a month later or so...

I was told this afternoon "before the end of the year." which gave me a bit of a pause. but he then said they are hoping for sometime in November.

if you pre-order, they basically notify you when they arrive in the store and they'll hold one for you for up to 7 days to pick up.

as I said in another thread, the stores are being told the 950/XL hardware is ready, it's Window Mobile 10.0 to be finished they are waiting on.

That is too funny. I was going to ask if you pre-ordered an ATT branded 950. I am pretty much over carrier branded and/or locked phones, but I may make an exception for this one. I can't using an XL, but I guess I'll go by the MS store tomorrow and see how it looks.

I am assuming they had a demo model?

I wonder if you can preorder with the devil, er, ATT.
