Not liking the battery so far in the 950 XL.

My phone was at 80% about 7 hours ago, and I find that I have to keep putting it on the charging plate at work to make sure I get through the day with light usage.

Was I just spoilt by the 1520?

    That's awesome to hear!!!
I was waiting for this update before deciding to buy this phone, hoping it would fix the initial battery issues people were having. Glad it did! Now I can go ahead buy it! (I'm still on an ancient but still amazing 920... and I'm sure the battery on the 950 XL is way better than what I'm currently getting on my 920 lol).
I'm possibly waiting until after Christmas for mine. 920s seem to get some rough comments. Mine does the full day, unless I hammer it. Today it dropped only 21% from 7am until 5pm. Although, I only sent a couple of texts. 2.1% per hour is ok. I'm on W10. To be honest, I was hoping for over 24 hours from the 950xl.

No you just need to set your device up right (unless you have a specific issue with your hardware).

I had a 1520 and my 950xl is getting similar if not better battery life. I'll admit it did not come out of the box that way but after some tweaking this phone rocks.

I have a post in this thread that goes over what I did to my phone in detail. Briefly, there are only a few main offenders: linked messaging between IM and Skype, Hey Cortana, and Windows Hello.

Unplugged mine at 0430 this morning, at 1930 this evening, I have 11% left. Work calls, games, Edge, showing off, Wi-Fi, BT, and location stay on, Glance is turned off. Battery saver set at 20%. It is a marked improvement since the update went out.

I left the house at 8:30 A.M. this past Tuesday with 78% charge. I came home at 10:30 P.M. with 18% charge left after using it for music, browsing the web, GPS navigation, and checking email. Wifi, Bluetooth, Glance, and Hey Cortana were active the entire time.

Hi people, had my xl a few days now and battery has been average to poor.how many full discharge and recharges should I expect before I see optimum battery?
Also the killer for me seems to be anything using 4g? So web browsing or watching videos online? What would the normal battery expectancy be for web browing on 4g? I dnt think i would get more than 90 -120 mins, does that seem right ?this post alone has cost me 2% and I'm currently on WiFi?
    Thanks in advance.

After I drained the battery to zero and recharge it, the battery life is not bad recently.
The first week after I got the phone, probably need to recharge twice within 24 hours. Now it only need charge once per 24 hours, each time has 15-20% left before charging. Some web surfing, apps, at least an hour and half bluetooth music playing. So now I am not sure for capture pictures and GPS navigation, how long the battery will last.

So by this do you mean that you had your XL set up, back it up, hard reset it and then used the back up.

Or you just hard reset it and started from scratch <-- this what I am thinking of doing but I am worried that I'll loose my text messages.

I am draining like 25% in an hour and it's just not acceptable.
I factory reset it and started from scratch, without restoring any of my backups and I still have my text messages from my old 920. FYI.

Sure: http://forums.windowscentral.com/e?l...token=p0RCf7dn - only feature missing for me is "time since last charge". Send message to the dev but not reply yet.

I came from using a Lumia 1520 also and I LOVED that phone. It was indestructible and it lasted forever. And I always bragged about how powerful and long lasting it was compared to the iPhone. I went in to MS Store last week because my 1520 had a crack and some hairline fractures by the buttons on the plastic and so I wanted to use my $50 replacement before it expired. They said they had no more 1520s and they were no longer being sold. So they said I could basically use the price I paid for the original 1520 and put it toward a new phone. So I was like damnnnnn jackpot I get a Lumia 950XL for less than a $100 out of pocket. Well I get home, and this phone is EXTREMELY WARM. And I noticed the battery was going down like mad. I did the hard reset and went to .29 before they pulled it. The warmth was a little better, but it was still getting hot for like no reason. Like on simple webpages, it would heat up and drain super fast. If I did a Netflix movie, it wasn't warm at all. I'd go into Messaging and it would be hot and drain again. Like, #1, why would they put the processor by where your hands always are holding it, and #2, why is the processor being allowed to get that warm, especially for menial tasks? I just have never seen a phone drain so fast, no matter what I do. I don't think I should have to turn off every single function for this phone to work. What's the point of them adding features if we have to turn them all off because MS doesn't know how to manage an octa-core power hungry beast like this Snapdragon. and they knew it too. That's why they put a liquid cooler inside it. Maybe I'm losing my mind, but I miss my cool running 1520 with quad core. This 8-core crap isn't worth it if MS doesn't know how to power manage and do proper QA.

Is anyone else having problems with the phone constantly being very warm? Maybe mine is just a fluke and I need to take it back?

Like all iphones etc the gets dissipated in the case, on new 950xl it does the same via water cooling, battery drain gets better once the few days / charges takes place, I get 1 1/2 days on my 950xl sometimes more. Heat reduces slot too after all phone updates and apps done too. I try to turn off edge as much as possible, didn't realise until dock came how many tabs open (15)

Fyi, independent bench marks puts the 950xl above nexus 6p and Samsung s6 by 4 fps on benchmarks due to water-cooling

I can get 2days on normal battery usage, motion and glance on, hey Cortana off, all apps running in background. I use a program called battery sense, turned off that auto sense features just so I can look at stats. I'm able to pull off 1.1% drain normally.

Some apps like face book can be 20% if I use them I close them afterwards which still gets me a day battery life.

You cant argue with that. Because it "technically" makes sense too. Its just led up pixels, it does not drain battery. So I am not sure what eats your battery but it isnt glance.
Well, here it is, a little experiment done by Steve Litchfield, over at allaboutwindowsphone.com.

Glance on, Glance off: how to save (up to) 43% battery per day under Windows 10 Mobile

And he's pretty good at what he does.
