First let me say that I been using wp since windows ce 3.1 & wm 5 over 15 years ago. I like my 950xl a lot and I think it might be the best windows mobile device I ever had. I keep my 1520 as a media player and GPS since it has all my here settings saved on it.

I been using my 950xl for 2.5 weeks and love it. The screen is nice, it's faster than my 1520, qi charging is back, the camera is awesome, it feels better in my hands being lighter with round corners.

I picked up my 1520 to go for a jog since I haven't transferred all my music yet. I instantly liked the volume/power button placement even though I got adjusted to the new phone. I noticed while a little slower, the 1520 doesn't heat up as much from normal use. I also really miss the capacitive buttons. I am used to on screen but after using capacitive buttons again I miss it. I first thought to swipe up but realized I didn't need to. I also miss double tap to wake.

Are these deal breakers? No, I still recommend the upgrade. I miss these things but they are a small sacrifice to have the 950xl. Hope fully the next phone will address all these things.

It also made me realize that after 2 years the 1520 is still a decent phone. I still enjoy using it and still think "this phone is pretty nice"

@darth_furious, I agree. The only problem with my AT&T 1520 is the battery is damaged and I decided to put the repair costs to a new 950 XL.
Both phones are fantastic and the differences between them are so small that both phones are tied for the Best 5.5"+ Windows Phone.

The fuze was better than the tylt.
The focus was way better than the fuze.
The 920 was way better than the focus (except the weight).
The 1520 was better than the 920 (except for missing qi).
The 950xl is better than the 1520.

It makes sense each generation is better but by less. I may skip a generation next unless there are some killer features

No, that's just your variant, My 1520 has the Qi. also, the 1520 was not the replacement to the 920, that was the 930.

In the U.S., the 930 was not available. The Icon was though (same as the 930), but only on Verizon.. and it was the successor or "replacement" for the Verizon 925. However, for those of us on AT&T, the successor to the 920 was either the 1020 or the 1520 only. There was no other upgrade path, unless those 920 users waited all this time for these 950 phones.

A lot of Lumia 920 owners did wait for the Lumia 950.

I got the 925, and just picked up there 950. I was contemplating the 930, but didn't feel it was the right time to upgrade. Had I of had the 920, I might of grabbed the beautiful orange 930. I wanted the 1020 but wasn't a significant upgrade other than the camera. I thought the 1520 was to large, even tho I never seen one in person. After my wife's iPhone 6 plus, I was hooked on getting the next large screen Lumia phone possible. The phone will keep me with Windows 10 hopefully for the next 2 years.

I have a 1520.3 on AT&T. I put the insider on my 920 I have had since day one.
I will keep my 1520.3 right where it is.

Agree with everything the op said except the capacitive buttons. I have accidently launched Cortana 2,600,000 times over 26 months. :)

Hasn't happened a single time since Thanksgiving day.

So you've launched Cortana every 2,3 seconds.
Given that you need to close it to re-open it, you must be pretty fast with your hands.
Seeing that you look a bit like a cowboy, i guess these days you draw your Cortana in stead of your gun.

Just because the 930 wasn't released in your area, doesn't make the 930 not the 920 successor, also I'm pretty sure the 930 is a 920 successor, the 925 was just a 92x variant, and even by your logic, the 930 would actually be succeeding the 928
