i performed an experiment. i left my 950xl idled for 24 hours and see which apps consumed most power in background. here the result.

as you can see, the phone was not "in use" during the period of experiment. all apps consumed battery in background as there were all gray colors in the statistics bars (blue color would be seen if foreground consumption was found). cellular data used more power than display and system. for particular app, "messaging+skype" was the champion. let's see the full ranking:

for the 5 most demanding apps, their details are as follow:

one more thing: some articles said that "edge" is the main reason for battery drain and suggested to disable its background activities. you can see in this experiment that the edge didn't use much power in background. I had intentionally left some tabs open in the edge during the period of experiment.

the os is .29 and the firmware is the latest one.

Nice analysis. When messaging-skype was introduced to insider builds, I immediatly noticed that it is power hungry. I even created a feedback for that. Since then, the consumption went down but still it is not that great. They need to improve the way skype does things and how it interacts with the app to lower power consumption.

You might want to create a feedback with the main picture and tweet it to gabeaul.
