950 xl screen replacement

Well I smashed my screen after a light drop at the weekend. The phone had a screen protector but a drop on bottom corner has smashed/ spidered the glass. The touch screen is still working.

My case is still on pre order which I suspect would have saved the phone. The phone is not insured after only going as far as getting quote!

Has anyone had their screen replaced yet? Going to ring Microsoft for a quote tomorrow. Have found replacements on ebay in US but they are fairly costly and will void warranty although technically it looks like a fairly easy job. Anyone tried it themselves or had a 3rd party repair?

Oh man, that sucks.. Haven't had to try this yet, but I'm very curious how it goes because I decided against MS complete after realizing that it gets you basically one replacement at a total cost of $198.

Screen assembly replacements on eBay are around $200 (see this search) so if you manage to pull off the repair it's the same cost as MS Complete. More manual labor though.. Update: apparently $207 to have it fixed by Palco, see this post.


Edit: seems like this is listed as part number 00813X2 in many places, so that might help searching for a vendor.

Edit 2: the teardown video takes it apart more than you would have to, but it still looks like quite a job! Brr

Nice one for the part number! Cheers Ben for taking the time. I had seen the first video but the others will definitely help. Just about to call Microsoft customer services see what they say!
If I go for it I will make sure to take photos!

I had a similar thing happen to me. So annoyed that I cracked my screen. I'm in Canada so it is quite expensive to get a replacement. I'm hoping I can come across something cheaper down the road since I love the phone.

For future reference: I've started a thread with part numbers for the 950XL, which should help looking up replacement parts at a decent price.
