Hey guys I just notice since my lumia 950 xl that came from b&h is a international lumia from Spain or Mexico based on the speech recognition on this phone. Is there a way to convert the device to a different firmware an such or region or whatever so I can have reset protection on this phone? A bit silly that b&h didn't put it in since there in NY. I read some where on forums some changed the firmware or something. I just feel like my phone is now naked. :'( any help be appreciated. thanks so much.

Yes, though the original premise of the article is getting a firmware update that hadn't yet been released for your region, the exact same steps will get you a firmware with the Reset Protection feature existing. Or any other region-specific feature you might want/need. The trick of course is figuring out which of the many variants is the "right" one for you. Just be careful and make sure the model numbers are the same (don't try to flash RM-1116 with firmware for RM-1085 for example).

Based on the whole process only lasted 34 seconds and (hopefully) your device still working as before, maybe the FFU is corrupt.

Which step of the procedure were you on when this happened?

Can you post the numbers from the sticker inside the back cover of your phone (RM-xxxx and 059xxxx but not the IMEI numbers) ?

My Indian non-carrier branded unlocked 950XL RM-1116 doesn't have Reset protection either. I doubt flashing to a different firmware would help.

well supposedly doing a product change to US will make that happen. But seeing that my phone hates me that im stuck with my spain/mexico phone lol damn them I wish Microsoft would just put this reset protection in all phones this really stupid to have to go through loops to try to change product code to only fall in fail all the time. I've try over like 4 times i even uninstall recovery tool and redo all that with still fail. lol Im just giving up last thing I need is some one posting a code on here and I end up bricking my phone. Anyway Thanks pepper for trying to help.

I would never flash my firmware with a file from a source other than MS. Malicious code in firmware is becoming a very common attack vector which is impossible to detect. And you will never know what is happening with your phone. Anything being done can be completely hidden from the OS.

GhostEchelon, you said your original product code from the sticker is 059X5P5 - interestingly, I ran that version on my phone for a while and it did in fact have Reset Protection. But, mine is originally a 059X505 intended for North America.

I wonder if for that feature they are using a specific list/range of IMEI to determine which devices get it. If that is the case, there's no workaround other than petitioning Microsoft to add the feature worldwide. I assume you've done a device reset and didn't accidentally skip the question about Reset Protection in the initial setup?

It also looks like I need to run some tests and be sure the procedure still works, the command line you used should not have actually tried to flash anything (the -skip_flash switch) but it looks like it was trying to do who knows what.

Ya my Lumia 950 xl is 059X5P5 also has 00-88 keyboards of Mexico and speech along with the code I provided I found on my sticker. The phone never ask to turn on reset protection. Also look at security and it's missing. Microsoft should have it world wide. Hell why not apple doesn't do it as US only neither does android right? I like my phone. I'll just have to treat it like old school phones lol.

P.S. Be nice if they even had in iris scan reset protection for international unlock 950s now that I thought of that idea. :\
