Using external microphone when recording video

I Dan on YouTube record audio on a Lumia 950 with a USB external mic, and I was thinking if this was possible to do in the camera app when doing video, either through USB OTG or the audio jack. Does anyone have experience with this?

I am especially interested in wireless solutions if possible.

while possible, you have to also think about it being practical. sometimes, it may be easier to sync the audio in post.

personally, my audio recorder is MUCH larger than my 950 (Tascam dr-60D) but I primarily use it with a dslr for "work" (I've done some freelance for a local TV station) While the 950 does take great video, if I were stuck with my phone and recorder, I would use the recorder on it's own and then sync the audio after.

Alright, hoped to record quick to post videos with minimal editing... Too bad WIDI microphones are not existing thus far :-/
