I bought a new lumia 950 today and on the left side of the front camera, there is something but don't know what it is? Is it the deactivated LED for notification?

Even on the Microsoft's website, nothing is mentioned about it.
    Can anyone please tell me?

Do you mean the Iris scanner?

It's the proximity (infrared) sensor used for glance screen, double tap to wake feature and turning off the display when in a call.

Update: I opened up my Lumia 950 using the recommended tools. Probably it is the Iris sensor. Though, I wish it was the deactivated LED for notifications. :-P

But Lumia 950 has its Iris scanner at the extreme right not to the left of ffc. Just for future reference, if you ever see a small red LED in that area in dark, be assured that it is an IR sensor. No Lumia till date has had a notification LED and that too a deactivated one is highly unlikely. If the L950 had it then it would have become an instant news topic. Btw, take another phone and open its camera app. Position it at your phone's display and see that area. You might probably find a fast blinking faint red LED. If you do, then again it's an IR sensor i.e. proximity sensor.

Proximity sensor is also on the right between the iris scanner and the speaker, call up voice mail and cover the right sensor, screen will black out. Nothing seems to happen on mine when covering just the left sensor.

not the extreme right is the IR light aid for IRS scanning so windows hello can work even when there's no light at all.

It's explained here It is the infrared sensor. Windows Hello does not work if you cover it(just tried it).
