I currently run the mobile side of a fairly major eCommerce site (one tied to a very major brick and mortar brand.) Today is my last day (moving to bigger and better things), so I'm happy sharing some stats from our site that some of you may find interesting. It's been fascinating for me to watch the performance of various brands, and how it's changed over time. These are factors of both sales as well as user habits, but it shows the battle Microsoft is facing.
Here are the stats for Tablets, 2013 YTD:
95% of revenue comes from the iPad, with 90% of visits coming from the device. Insanity.
Here it is for mobile phones:
No sign of WP, and again, dominated by Apple. Android phones are broken down infinitely, all iPhones are lumped together.
For the breakdown of mobile phones by OS:
Lastly, if you want to see how it's trended, well, it kind of hasn't. Here's the RIM/WP fight for the bottom (Visits):
This isn't the prettiest post, but I hope some of you find these numbers as interesting as I do. It's why, even as a WP user, it's hard for me to justify taking any time at all to optimize for WP. iOS is responsible for such a disproportionate part of our visits and revenue that it gets all the attention.
