IDC report: Samsung sold more phones than Nokia in Finland during Q1 2013

Now, the article (and maybe the headline) are free of any bias (maybe.), but the comments are downright humiliating.
Now that I think of it, I really read articles for the comments. So, why am I reading Engadget in the first place? Heck, even Phonearena has a better commenting system.

Samsung has outsold Nokia in Finland since Q3 2012, nothing new in here. Samsung did finally overtook Nokia in marketshare though, which is the real news. Here's an example of top models sold in April from top three carriers of Finland:

    DNA
    1. iPhone 5 *
    2. Nokia Lumia 620
    3. Samsung Galaxy Y
    4. Nokia Lumia 820 *
    5. Samsung Galaxy S III Mini
    6. Nokia C2-01
    7. Samsung Galaxy S III *
    8. Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2
    9. Samsung Galaxy Xcover
    10. Nokia 113

    Elisa Consumer

    1. Nokia Lumia 620
    2. Apple iPhone 5
    3. Nokia Lumia 820
    4. Samsung Galaxy S III
    5. Nokia Lumia 920
    6. Samsung Galaxy GIO
    7. Samsung Galaxy Xcover II
    8. Nokia C2-01
    9. Samsung Galaxy S 4
    10. Samsung Galaxy S III mini

    Elisa Corporate
    1. Nokia Lumia 820
    2. Nokia C2-01
    3. Nokia Lumia 620
    4. Huawei F610
    5. Nokia Lumia 920
    6. Samsung Xcover 271
    7. Apple iPhone 5
    8. Nokia 300
    9. Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2
    10. Nokia Lumia 800

    Sonera
    1. iPhone 5
    2. Nokia Lumia 920
    3. Nokia Lumia 620
    4. Nokia Lumia 820
    5. Nokia C2-01
    6. Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2
    7. iPhone 4S
    8. Nokia Lumia 800
    9. Samsung Galaxy Gio
    10. Nokia 113

As you can see, it's pretty much just Nokia, iPhone and Samsung. For some reason Finnish people really love the Xcover models.

Samsung sells more phones in the US than Apple which is a US company. Your point, as with this entire discussion is moot.

The point that is missing and that hasn't been explained. In Finland, Nokia was a well respected company that the Finns were proud of even though a lot of people outside Finland thought the name Nokia was Japanese instead of the Finnish town where the company was born. A lot of Finns owned and still own Nokia phones simply because it's a Finnish brand. The statistics is about sold phones it however doesn't show that fact that a large percentage of the population still has a Nokia phone, though it's an older one.

How do I know this you may ask? Well simple. My wife is half Finnish, she has family in Finland and I lived there for about a year. Nokia lost a lot of market share when they started to fall behind the competition, however a lot of the older generation still have old Nokia phones. I might also add that Finland probably has one of the best mobile networks in the EU.
