Firstly, this is simply a thought, and not based on fact or inside knowledge, but I have been looking at the ad for the upcoming Nokia World event, and considering how Nokia (as with most phone/tech companies these days) rarely release an ad without there being some meaning behind it. The ad in question features Abu Dhabi (hardly a surprise as the event is taking place there) and in the foreground is a boat with a 'Nokia Blue' sail. The main focus-point for the part of the image that is wholly 'Nokia' (the sail) is that is is artfully curved.

Move on now to recent announcements that Samsung and LG are to set to announce flexible / OLED displays also in October, could we be seeing something like that from Nokia too. It is telling that the strapline for Nokia World is #inventionreinvented. What exactly is innovative about a phablet or a tablet (both have been done by other companies for years). Therefore, I am going to put my money on a genuine surprise at Nokia World this time round, and I wouldn't be remotely surprised if curved / flexible displays were the big news to come out from it.

you are completely right, considering this might be nokia's last Nokia world I don't think they cant go out with a bang! I'm not sure if the surprise will be curved displays but we could be seeing a surprise or two

A tipster from The Verge did say that multiple form factors are coming to Nokia World, so it's possible.

I really, really hope one of those form factors is a good upgrade from the Lumia 800. I've had mine for nearly 2 years now, and can't bring myself to upgrade to anything bigger or bulkier. Ideally want something with an iPhone 5/5S size, dimensions and weight but running WP8. THAT would be the real killer device for Nokia/MSFT.

I don't believe in the flexible display, it has already been announced for the galaxy note 3 but it turned out that this is false

Lumia 720 is close to what you want

There is already a Lumia like that. It's called the L620 😉

Reading this old post, and turns out I have now upgraded to Lumia 720. Whilst it is closer to what I want in that it is quite slim and not as massive as, say, a 920, it does not feel premium and is limited by only having 528MB and not running apps like Nokia Camera etc. Nokia World was really disappointing for me, as the only devices they announced were MASSIVE phablets that I would never, ever own (who wants to look that idiotic holding a huge slab up to their ear?!), an admittedly cool tablet, and a collection of Asha devices that I will not own as they are only really intended for developing markets.

Nokia used to be known as the manufacturer of exquisite hardware - I still own (but don't use) a Nokia 8800, which was beautifully crafted from stainless steel and a slider mechanism that was developed using Ferrari technology, and the phone still sells on ebay for about the price of a new sim-free Lumia 720 - for an 8-year old GSM/GPRS series-40 phone!! I just feel that Nokia appear to be chasing the low end too aggressively, and only thinking about the top-end as massive devices that have huge amounts of technology crammed into them. Polycarbonate has been good for them, and the Lumia range is impressive, but for me Nokia are still lacking that killer 'I want' device - something that looks absolutely beautiful and is crafted to look timeless and distinguished rather than brightly-coloured plastic. Let's face it, why have Apple sold so many more 5S's than 5C's, when the 5C does pretty much all that a 5S does? The main reason is because people don't necessarily want to own brightly-coloured plastic. Please, please Nokia (or perhaps MSFT when it buys Nokia), make a truly desirable phone both in terms of style, size and materials - I for one will be first in the queue to replace my cheap, plastic L720.
