"We don't want to be a single OS manufacturer"

[Working with Microsoft] is an interesting proposition for us in the PC environment, and we continue our engagement with them."
"We are exploring this as part of our discussion in mobile space too. One thing is using the platform [Windows Phone] itself, and another is 'what can we deliver on top of it'?"

Perron declined to give a specific date on when we might see a Windows Phone, stating that the discussions were tentative at the moment (and clearly have been for some time) , but given the steady rise in popularity for Microsoft's OS, it seems that perhaps there may still be others looking to launch on Windows Phone too.

Sony builds nice phones these days. It'd be nice just to see another manufacturer on board.

I'm a big fan of Nokia phones, for many reasons, but I have no problem in seeing other great phones from other OEM's. What I don't want to see, is lack of commitment to the WP platform. If any OEM such as Samsung, Sony, HTC, LG want to release new phones on WP, great. But don't just chuck out a model or two and never put any effort in after launch. They should actively develop custom apps for WP, bring out new firmware periodically, put their latest hardware in their WP's, advertise the phones more etc. It seems as though so far, companies other than Nokia, have brought out a phone or two to test the water, but never gave it a real go. They might just be suprised how well one could sell if they put some more effort in :)

Maybe Sony see that the Android market is just about to get bloated (If already) and chinese OEM's are just making the competition more and more difficult with their lower prices and spec wars... so could be a good chance for Sony looking another fresh market, like WP.

I say the more the merrier, it's good to have Sony interested in WP platform and i hope they bring their Xperia design in some Sony WP handset.

I guess this is what OEMs are realizing right now. it's ALWAYS best to have more than one OS in your portfolio

Sony has quality phones and brand recognition so they would be a good fit for WP.

Not at all. We all want Microsoft/Nokia to dominate the industry, right? This is much less likely if other OEM's bring out good products.

I don't think any reasonable WP fan wants just MS/Nokia to dominate anymore than a Windows fan wants just the Surface to be the dominate computer.

Generally people like more choices compared to less. Why limit yourself? One OEM can't think of everything and more OEMs could bring new technology that MS/Nokia didn't even think of.

I personally would prefer a MS phone to Sony phone unless the Nokia collection gets expanded to other phones. If that happens, I would be tempted by a Sony phone since they're usually pretty good phones.

I switched to a Nokia Lumia 1520 from a Sony Xperia ZL... The reason? Awful phone experience, bad speakers.... People barely ear me and mms messages sometimes will come, sometimes don't. I will never buy another Sony, if Microsoft design their own phones that will be my best wishful phone. But so far I have not experience any issue with the 1520.

on the flip side, the new Xperia Compact has people very excited while my 1520 still has the screen brightness and over-sensitivity problem. Everyone has a different perspective.

Well, I just think that it's going to be much harder for Microsoft to do well if the competition is good. If Apple, Samsung, etc bring out bad products, that's good for Windows, right? Isn't that what any Microsoft fan wants?
