Been on Android but recently got a new Windows 8 laptop to use for working on my graduate degree. Liked it so bought a used Lumia 920. Really enjoying it so far.

I tried it out when a professor was having trouble finding the alarm function on her Lumia 710. I was able to quickly navigate the system, despite having never used it before, and solved her problem quickly. I also have a general aversion to Apple stuff, and right around that time I got annoyed with Google, so an easy to navigate Windows Phone was appealing to me.

But the big thing that won me over to WP as a platform was the idea of owning an Xbox phone. I was a big fan of Xbox live arcade, which I felt was the biggest push into downloadable content for gaming last generation. I imagined a world where I could buy a game on my Xbox 360 and have a mobile version of it on my phone, as well. This SORT OF happened when the WP version of Ilo Milo came out (I really liked the XBLA version), but things fell apart quickly. I stuck around because I really liked the social networking integration (now gone) and the idea of having "hubs" that apps connect to (also gone).

Windows Phone felt unique and fresh, and all of the problems that my friends were complaining about with their Androids (bugginess being the most prevalent) and iPhones (iTunes requirement, bad build quality) were non-existent.

I bought a Samsung Omnia 7, sort of the European version of the Focus, because I really liked the look of it. It had an elegant design, AMOLED display (which really made the vibrant tiles of WP pop), but most of all it had a nice "big" (in comparison to the iPhone of 2010) 4 inch display. I also liked the idea of a physical home button with capacitive back/search keys. It was basically the WP version of the original Galaxy S, but much prettier in design, and the ideal phone hardware for me at the time. I really miss my Omnia 7. Every time I pick it up to mess around with it just feels "right". I wish Samsung would come out with something that feels the same.

All the camera hype about and leading up to the release of the Nokia Lumia 920 and Windows Phone 8. I read about the 920 and it's Pureview technology, and WP8 every day for months until it came out (coming from 4 generations of iPhones), and when it did, I jumped onboard, fell in love, and have never looked back!

I have always been a fan of Nokia phones. I just love their durability, design and everything. Also I was a fan of their Symbian OS. It was such a versatile OS. Too bad they ditched it.

I was actually one of those people who hated Nokia's decision to go all in with Windows Phone. I was initially not a fan of the Live Tiles. They looked really ugly and boring to me back then.

But everything changed when I watched the Lumia 800 Amazing Everyday ad on YouTube. At first, I was only a fan of the music used on that ad coz it was so catchy and cool... But as I watched it repeatedly, I slowly fell in love with the phone. I love how the UI matches the hardware. It just looks so classy and sophisticated unlike those Android smartphones. And that's how became a fan and eventually, a user of Windows Phone!

Hopefully Microsoft would release a monster Lumia next year. The recent Lumias are okay, but not enough. The competition nowadays is tough so they must really do something that stands out from others.

Btw sorry for my English. I am not a native English speaker. It would be nice if you could help me out in speaking English better lol just kidding

I change phones and platforms several times a year. Although I can do more things and be more productive on Android and iPhone, I really like Microsoft's Modern UI. I like small details like the keyboard and the lock screen.

I decided to buy Lumia phone because I was just sick of Android and everything regarding it.

I have 8.1 on my PC so I'm already used to this design and I really like it.

I was first thinking about getting some low-end device but their prices in Croatia are just sick. Currently 630 is being sold for $250 and that's way too much. I was thinking then about getting 730 because of the price ($400) but I'm not not a selfie person. Then I saw 830 on the Youtube and really liked it, but the price is too high $500. On the the end I decided to buy 930 from a private shop for $450 and I really lile the phone, I just have to get used to this huge screen. :D

Once again, those are prices in Croatia(Europe).

I was actually looking for an android phone to buy, but then I say the Lumia 520 for 130$ unlocked. It was cheap and it has Windows phone on it so I bought it, 4 months later I give it to my dad and get the 925. Now one year after my first Windows phone, everyone in my family 👪 has a Windows phone.

Android is buggy only because Google give manufacturers the freedom to create its own skins. You would think differently if you used a Nexus device. Unfortunately, Nexus devices have never had great cameras.

Anyway, in terms of looks, android and iOS are pretty similar. It think WP appeals to people who wants something different.

First I got a Windows mobile with no service (mostly for games) then a 6.5 HP phone. After that, I wanted an iPhone. The 5s reinforced that with a fingerprint sensor. But then I saw that my friend had a Windows phone, and I remembered that it still existed, Possibly from a TV ad. I decided to get one, then I did a few spec comparisons and I found that Apple was at the bottom of the game. Lumia 635 for me.

Well, I've been on the Windows platform ever since Windows Mobile 5.0, when my grandfather gave me his O2 XDA II and I had to use a "stylus" to tap on the screen. Back in college, that phone was pretty handy in tracking my classes and organization meetings, and it displayed everything I needed on the "mini-desktop" (complete with the drop down mobile version of the "Start Menu"): messages, calendar and appointments, alarms, tasks, etc. - all in one glance! Then came Windows Mobile 6.0, 6.5, 6.5.3, all of which were basically the same platform... with the SPB Shell which slowed down the HTC T2222 and T3333 and gave it an android-ish style. These two HTCs had decent cameras, too. (decent for it's time!)

Then Windows Phone 7 came. My grandmother gave me her Nokia Lumia 610 because no one else in the family "knew" how to use the Windows platform - they all found it confusing but it was all natural to me. I liked the new tiles, the sounds, the feel, and the fact that even after dropping my aircraft aluminum 1,200-lumen LED flashlight on the screen there was not even a single scratch on it! And I also liked it how people asked "What phone is that?" or "What's a Windows Phone?"

The camera on the 610 was also decent, but I felt limited by not being able to upgrade to Windows Phone 8. So I took the HTC 8S for a spin, and being an HTC it also had a decent camera. But, alas! satisfaction know no limit! The Lumia 1020 came out, and the rest is history.

Summary: I was introduced to the platform by my grandparents by giving me their phones, and the design, user experience and interface, live tiles, the camera and the smaller market share made me stay.

mine experience is a bit different. i have been always a die hard fan of Nokia. i tried samsung twice, but both didn't more than 3 weeks. first was stolen, and second i returned. when i returned samsung s2 (which i bought due to suggestion of a friend) in two weeks due to heat issues, i went back to Nokia and bought Lumia 800.
after that, i am in love with the simplicity of the OS. the app gap never bothered me as i am of the view that, what u need is more important than what u want.
whatever i need is always available. and i really love the build quality of the phone.
WP always helps me survive complete day in battery usage, everything is easy and handy, my mails, calender, sms, contacts and is completely always synced to my Laptop. so everything is available there too.

I have been a loyal Nokia user for more than 7 years now. I prefer Nokia over other companies as they always have the best built quality, its services have always been very good, unlike many other companies here. When I first saw WP, I really liked it as those tiles were something different to try out. I bought my first Lumia 710 & was really happy with it. App gap didn't bother me much as it WP had more than enough apps for everyday use. After seeing WP 8, I wanted a good device, I waited for some time & bought 1320, I'm still very happy with it. The way WP is improving is also good. So for some years definitely I'll be sticking to WP as like its simplicity, fluidity, smoothness etc...

I was looking for a phone with a good camera, and I could not pass on the best camera phone (1020) at only $339. I was expecting an inferior user experience to iOS and Android, but that has definitely not been the case.
