Would you pay it yearly and have multiple updates?

Would you rather deal with a one time payment?

Just curious: How do you feel about it? You didn't really say in your post.

There would be a horrid cry against it,one not heard since Obi-Won felt the disturbance in the Force when Aldaraan was blown up by the Death Star. (Yep, I went there with that analogy.) But, IF this was a direction MS was going, A one time payment with lifetime updates so long as you own your computer type thing would not offend me as much as any other scenario. And none of this pricey stuff like what you pay for Office software. Let's keep it modest.

I am a cheapskate at heart. But I can see where MS, being the small shoe-string budget Mom & Pop start-up they are may look at this as a way to replace revenue and not sell out completely to advertisers.

I would pay for it. If the updates are actual improvements and not just bug fixes, I'd pay for the service. Also, they would have to provide more response to customer feedback and not ignore it (which they seem to be doing now)They would need to provide better security services and add Office with the subscription to compensate the idea.

To do a subscription, it can be risky. What about services like cable, internet, phone, Netflix, Hulu? Some are major and some are minor compared to Microsoft, but still you see many paying for it. Its all on Microsoft to make it worth the while. If Cortana and Kinect works properly, it will change the game forever.

There are so many free OSs that It's almost impossible to make money selling an OS. Windows has the advantage of the huge library of apps that is exclusive to the platform, this is a bigger advantage in the enterprise market, but every day this asset lose value and becomes more irrelevant. Probably in the next few years Windows will be free in the consumer market, in all the form factors. But if Microsoft accepts defeat, maybe they could decide to maximize the revenue of the dying OS selling the software for a hefty price, or as a service, to the people that really need it.
