Microsoft Smartwatch Outed in New Patent | Digital Trends

This looks very interesting, the part about a detachable band for cleaning. I bet Apple just saw this patent and said "oh ****" and went back to the drawing board.

According to the article (I didn't read the filing itself), the patent covers two things
    1. Making the body of the watch removable for charging, connecting to a computer and to allow the strap to be cleaned. A good idea perhaps, but hardly a critical feature of the smart watch.
    2. Something vague about displaying biometric measurements on a watch. The article isn't specific enough to allow us to judge these claims, but the general concept is certainly not new. BTW, a drawing (as shown in the article) provides background information in a patent - it's the claims that are written down that matter.

Filing a patent does not mean a company will make a product that uses that patent.
