Well there is a vast ecosystem of 3rd party peripherals(keyboards, styluses) and other things that make an iPad more than just a pure consumption device. I've seen an iPad used as a POS system for a restaurant and I've heard of it being used for inventory control and other things in the enterprise. It's a mistake to think that productivity = OneNote and drawing. There are many other things you can do with a tablet.

Indeed, productivity isn't just OneNote and drawing, and, obviously, Surface does a lot more than that. But yeah, don't take the post so seriously —I thought it was funny, mainly because, as xandros9 states, it'd technically redefine productivity. :)

Good point. Redefined to mean "not getting much done."

But isn't bashing Apple to be expected from a Windows/Microsoft forum?

Someone's that's willing to invest in the right accessories, apps and cloud storage can get a lot done with an iPad, especially now that's Office is available. I have a Surface 2, and aside from the USB hub that I bought, my "investment" consisted of old accessories I grabbed off the shelf. However, those that don't mind paying the "Apple tax" can be very productive. Still, IMO, the clear productivity advantage goes to MS and x86 tablets.

Why would you use x86 on a tablet? The UI is completely unsuitable for touch. x86 is only good on a computer with a mouse cursor which means larger screens(laptops, workstations). So in fact, the iPad is the most productive tablet due to enormous app & hardware ecosystem.

Obviously you are not well versed in what your are talking about. I have used x86 based windows on a Fujitsu with wacom pen Enabled screen and it works great. I have also had friends using It on fujitsus that are wacom and multitoich enabled with no issues. You should read up a little more.

You might want to let Surface Pro users know this - it may redefine their productivity.

And wasn't Windows 8 designed from the ground up to be more touchy feely?

That's just opinion. I think when threshold is released that the opinion of x86 being not touch friendly will definitively decrease as it's stored to be a perfect, or at least close to perfect, merge of Windows 8 touch and Windows 7 keyboard & mouse. I think the screenshots from build 2014 back this up.

Hardly ground up build. Much of the UI outside the Start Screen is the same and not touch friendly. Trying to close Windows in the desktop on my Surface RT is not easy. They didn't increase the size of the touch objects for the desktop, they just flattened it.

That's why I don't get all the fuss about Windows 8 being optimized for touch and having "destroyed" the mouse experience. Windows 8 was definitely a stepping stone and not a final or complete solution.

This is a little funnier than the advert. x86 is a processor architecture, not a user interface.

Not really, I mean you have extreme fans like Google, and Apple has but bashing them isn't always needed/required. I actually think it's a little tasteless to bash another product. The iPad works for some people, my lady loves hers and that's good for her.
