    I have a week old Lumia 1520 RM-937.

The phone is solid and snappy but lacks the basic things that an android can do flawlessly.

It doesn't have network share capabilities out of the box. My impression was, because it's "Windows" it should be a built-in feature. But I was very wrong.

I have a Windows 8.1 HTPC and hybrid tablet, Windows 7 main PC, an iPad 2, HTC One X and a Qnap TS-220 NAS which are all inter-connected inside and outside my home network. My 1520 needs a lot of work to be able to connect to NAS and other PCs. There's only one app than can handle this task on Windows Store (ShareFolder Explorer) but the use is very limited. If I am on my email and wanted to attach a file, I can't attach a file from my NAS or other PCs. It only sees photos from local storage. Android will give you an option from where you want to attach a file from (Qnap NAS, OneDrive, Photo folder, etc.) but WPhone only sees the local drive.

I wanted to post a photo to a forum using the Lumia 1520. I doesn't work. You can select a photo from local storage but you are stuck there. No button to start uploading. I've tried IE, Maxthon, UC Browser and Mini Web browser but they are all the same. Even inserting an image URL does not work. I was trying a way around it through Google Apps but Google capabilities are very limited in Microsoft environment.

I am beginning to regret getting a Windows phone with all of these basic tasks that it can't do. I never had a single issue with my good old HTC One X running android.

Or maybe I don't know enough. So please share what you know.

    Cheers!

Sharing is different from "attaching" files. If I want to reply to an email and wanted to attach file from network storage, there is no way it can be done.

From what I see in the sharing button is that is inconsistent. It is consistently broken.

What I mean by that is apps that I can share with are not always available... Such as OneDrive, multishare, unishare and even messaging!

Sometimes they're in the recent list, sometimes not. Same goes for below the recent sharing list. Not all apps show.

it is based on your data size, too large it not allowed to share to this app

I agree that NAS support is limited. In regards to posting images to forums, does the forum you're trying to post to support Tapatalk? If so, have you tried the Tapatalk app?

You can't attach a file other than photos to a reply, no matter where the file is. This has nothing to do with the file being on network storage.

Exactly. One of the weak points.
And I want to be able to attach any files from any source... either from local storage, NAS or from cloud.

I guess I feel your pain; NOT. From your post, you obviously used assumption versus research regarding what could and couldn't be done on WP at this time. It would have saved you a lot of time and grief if you had done some prior research. Not condeming you; just suggesting that you do your due dilligence the next time.

WP is a great OS but it is still in it's infancy so to speak. Patience for now, it gets better each update.

It would have been better if you share the "greatness" you are talking about. I already said in my post that some of you may know stuffs that I don't know about and asking to please share it. And that is the main purpose of this post. I already did my own research and some people here agree with with me on some of the points I brought up. Care to share anything about network sharing and NAS integration? Windows Phone seems to focus more on online social media because there's too much redundancy in social applications in my phone right now without installing anything.

    Edit:

@aximtreo, I may have misunderstood your post. Somehow you are correct about the "assumption" part. But if you have anything to share, please do.

    Cheers!

You know,it doesn't matter how much you research a subject in these phones we still wind up on the short end of the stick sometimes 😢

IIf possible return your phone and get something that works like you need it to.

I'm finding my 1520 lacking in what I need and want it to do........

IT sucksbigtime but it's better to learn sooner than later.

As I stated, my intention was to point out that some pre-buy research would have given you these short comings. Believe me, I suffer from hip shooting way too often. Good luck with your phone.

I did a pre-buy research but you will not see anything about networking issues. And to think that it's a basic feature now in most devices these days, I really didn't expect microsoft to skip that one basic feature of wireless devices.

Another problem is that too many people on this forum gloss over the problems. Someone coming here for information could be made to think that if someone has an issue, it's their fault.

Yup that happens all too frequently.....the old argument of " you should have known" gets real old really quick on all the different forums.

If you guys think what I am saying is not true and that windows phone is so great an OS/device, how come until now no one has given me a solution? Please prove to me that I am wrong and that everything is just due to my ignorance. I would be glad to admit that I am wrong if someone could provide me solutions to networking and NAS connectivity. Please.
Stop telling me I should have known. The damage is done already. Besides, if everyone knows everything, so what are forums for? Blaming the poster is just for trolls.

That wont happen because it can't be done right now. Maybe next when the next update or WP9 is released next year. This OS is full of stuff like this but like others have said reach update gets better.

No I am not. I read somewhere that it will void the warranty of the unit. My 1520 is just a week old.

The real answer to this question (for now) is not what you want to hear. Basically this platform and its entire ecosystem is heading towards the cloud. If you want to share anything put it in onedrive, sync all your devices to it and share to your hearts desire. Onedrive just upped its free storage to 15 gb and you can get 1tb for pretty cheap. The other problem is attachments. Changing your habits to grab the document first and then sharing it to your e-mail, facebook...etc seems backasswards but it does the job. Network sharing isnt a big issue because this isn't how Microsoft wants you to share documents. Its like apple forcing iTunes on everyone instead of creating an easy program that allows you to copy and share music to other devices. Basically you either adopt their method or you go back to the platform whose methodology makes more sense to you.
