The tone of all the articles are all positive now that it is using Android...SMH

Well, it's the second new tablet being announced that's running Android Lollipop, the Nexus 9 was the first, and it was a let down. This Nokia tablet looks as though it will smoke Googles own offering, which is pretty bad @$$

I know they are no longer making hardware (They sold the hardware making stuff to MS as we all know) but what is left is a smaller company specialising in software, so now they lease the Nokia name to another hardware maker to make basic stuff that is being made all over China and other countries, I would have thought they would be better off keeping the name for the stuff they actually sell.

The example of Bush is a good example, it used to be a well respected electronics company but now lives on in name only on cheap goods, not the best way to protect what is left of the Nokia company.

But as said god knows why I am talking about this, it ain't Windows, it's just another device I have no interest in made by a company in China with the name of an EX phone maker stuck on it.
That's like what happened to Eastman Kodak and Polaroid.

It's betrayal by Nokia. If by chance Nokia starts making smartphones again (but using Android) in 2016 (contrary to what they claim that they will never make one again), it's the beginning of the end for WP. Remember, WP grew in popularity, especially in India, just because of Nokia.

Microsoft should have bought out the Nokia company in entirety, not just the hardware division. Then such things would never have happened.

They wouldn't be making it, someone like Foxconn would.

They probably couldn't buy Nokia, it likely wasn't for sale.

Not really sure why there's so much hurt, Nokia did make a Windows tablet and it flopped, and with signs that they wanted to switch to android before the devices sale its no wonder they are now going full steam with android.

And the cold reality is unless your Windows tablet is branded Surface it wont sell so if this was Windows it wouldn't have any impact on the market. Nokia is gone, no point crying about it, should be worried about whether Microsoft can produce a tablet OS that's more competitive than what they currently have.

I'll be blunt.

Who gives a rip that Nokia came out with a tablet? Fact remains that Samsung dominates the entire stage when it comes to android. Even the former flagship, HTC, is struggling to build momentum. The fact that Nokia got Foxconn to build their new devices is not exactly a huge plus imo. Reentering the market riding on a what looks like an ipad mini knockoff? C'mon... I expected better. This is just stupid. Everyone but Apple have admitted the low end market is the one to be focusing on right now... a tablet is not going to attract anyone outside of Nokia brand die-hards, and deep deep down inside? They'll know it's just a pretty foxconn with a Nokia sticker.

I'll say this. Keep awake, Microsoft. You've beaten out Blackberry. Now keep focusing on expanding the market share.

Microsoft had no use for a network equipment company.

Microsoft wanted much more, but Nokia wasn't selling. They sold only the crap. (talking from a business stand point). Also they made MS buy a lot of useless things to them. For this you only have to see what has happened since. All the layoffs, killing the X series. They were forced to take all that, Nokia was dictating the rules.

Clear indications about this is also the 18 month right to use the name Nokia in smart phones. That's suspiciously short, even if there wouldn't be intention to use it in the long term. Now that Nokia had the rest of the rights for the name, even in tablets, Microsoft had to rush all the SoMe accounts to Lumia etc pages, because an Android tablet came out so quickly.

Seriously, Microsoft paid 7bn for a world of trouble. Maybe the PureView division something to desire, but I doubt that could have been taken out of the deal.

A Nokia fan is always happier than an MS fan THAT IS A FACT. :)
I doubt if most people in North America know much about Nokia. Since they didn't have much presence here in the smartphone market, most people here just remember some old feature phone from 10 years ago that was either a Nokia or a Motorola. The Motorola name was and still is more well-known in the US.

They had no use for HERE Maps? or the Nokia brand name?

All of it is debatable, but I'm firmly in the camp that believes that the Nokia name meant something to a lot of people. I have fond memories of past Nokia devices I've owned.

Not so much in the US. I used Nokia smartphones back in 2006, and nobody I knew had any clue what they were. BlackBerry and Palm were the popular smartphones back then.

In the US no brand can ride off its past and its name. With enough years of bad/boring product, we will lose our loyalty or just get plain ol' tired of it. Blackberry, Nokia, Sony, Honda, Chevy, Ford, Motorola, Westinghouse, Nabisco, McDonalds. They all had their glory days. The only way they can get their mojo back is to put out something phenomenal again. Doesn't happen often. Once you lose the glory its hard to get it back. Apple basically came back from the dead several times which is rare.

Thats why N1 is not for US, I'm sure their target markets are countries where Nokia still has a huge brand name, these are countries where Nokia could hv beat samsung in Android phones market, I know that's debatable with no proof and ppl from Us would disagree since they dont know this market, but its a fact that Nokia is a very valuable brand name known for its quality & design and I'm sure this tablet is going to be hit in china, India & some EU markets.

In India only a few trusted brands are bought by people
Nokia is #1 in India overall and is everyones fall back option if they get tired of other brands

I wish Nokia N1 ran Windows 8.1 Pro or even Ubuntu touch instead of android
Nokia X proved a new low for Nokia,Nokia pureview etc proved how awesome it could be
If they collaborated with MS again,it could be the Moto-Google relationship in a way
