Sometimes I feel that MS uses us WP users to test their apps, and then share the final result with our enemies, I think the same will happen to Cortana eventually!!!

    Correct me.

I think it's a pretty good idea to make their services available everywhere. I mean, you wouldn't want the 1 billion+ people using non-WP devices to be using something other than Microsoft just so you would have a small exclusive would you? That would seem short sighted.

But, if we have nothing special, WP will die!

    enemies?

For me this doesn't matter much.
Microsoft Office is a global product.
There's no reason to deny it to anyone who might want this no matter what platform is used.

And what about the flip side where, because iTunes is iOS-only, I don't use it. Not only am I not using Apple's hardware, but I'm not using their services either.

If something is "special" to WP, that means that other platforms don't have it. That means that other people who might want to use WP can't because their Google or Apple equivalent isn't on our platform. If they use Microsoft's services, then all of their apps will already be here.

    Spot on...

I think this is it for many Microsoft fans including new users I believe.
The active start screen to me is about the coolest thing I'd ever seen when I first joined on.

Here's a tip for you, find a Microsoft employee where you work and ask them what they think of apple. Far from them being considered an "enemy' they see them as a strategic platform to extend their services to. This has been the response from all the MS workers I interact with where I work. The only ones fighting this ridiculous "war" are fanboys on sites like this, Microsoft, on the contrary is embracing apple as much as they can.

The truth is, Microsoft is going to do much, much more on ios and android than they ever will on their mobile platforms. Get used to it.

Neither does Android if you think.

I could get Gmail, Chrome and Hangouts on iOS! Therefore there's no reason to use Android!

I'm kinda happy other people get to experience the wonders of Office Lens now.

With no quality, mainstream apps, Live Tiles and and easy to manage ui are worthless.
MSFT should be releasing apps with feature parity across all platforms, not only for competitor platforms.

It might be an idea to ask why Apple and Google aren't also releasing apps for other platforms. At least Microsoft a are supporting their customers regardless of what platform they're using...!

Do you really believe that Microsoft would be releasing it's services across all platforms if Windows Phone had an 80% market share? Microsoft is doing it because they have to, not because they want to.

Google is of course not releasing any apps for Windows Phone because they don't want it to ever actually become a threat to Android. Lack of Google apps will always hurt Windows Phone adoption to a certain extent.

    1) I really wish people would drop the war and enemies garbage around here, or the moderators would make some effort to control it. There is more than enough of that in the world. This is not a war, it is business and nothing more. Beyond that, anything that minimizes the horror of actual war makes it easier for people to rationalize it is okay.
    2) What part of Microsoft is a services company have you missed in the passed few years? Yes, everything will go to the other platforms since that is key to the business model.
    3) Cortana is already going to ios and Android later this year. There is no secret about that at all.

There is no benefit to developing desirable apps and services and then locking them to a platform with a tiny market share. No one is dropping their iPhone or Galaxy whatever because they want Office Lens or any other app. People mostly like their devices - simple fact of life. As a business, Microsoft needs its services in as many hands as possible. In spite of occasional sentiments around here, the "I am taking my toys and going home" model seldom works on a playground among pre-teens and certainly never works in business....
