Microsoft update and OpenOffice issues

HI,

I thought I would see if anyone else was having this problem. I just did Windows update on my PC and now I can only open the writer program with PDF even if I save it as Microsoft office. I cannot email or anything using any other text saving method as it will only save them as PDF files does anyone know why? I had the old version 4.0.0 and now updated to the 4.0.1 but it still is the same since I updated the windows update. They will not even give you the option of opening the save doc with open office it is almost like the update i did created a shutdown for this program. I did a restore as well and this did not help.

Please help.
