So, when did Office 365 become not-free on phones?

I was under the impression that office 365 would be free on smaller screens, and that was what talk was about a few months back, only to find out today that I can no longer edit my files on my phone (lumia 730) unless I purchase office 365...

For a company this big/serious, stating stuff like that and then changing their minds is absolutely not up to par with their name... I'm thinking reverting back to win 8.1 on my phone. I only needed excel to perform simple tasks on my sheets.

I have no idea but I found something very odd on their Office plans on their website, like buy Office for 1 computer, 1 tablet and 1 phone.. And I was like "so what happens if you own multiple phones that already had free Office ?! " ..

I'm pretty sure that's a bug. you're supposed to be able to create and edit with some of the fancier features tied to a subscription

This, and the inability so far to access files on a private SharePoint server, both are problems with the new Office apps on Windows 10 Mobile - both features exist in the version of Office shipped with Windows Phone 8.1 and earlier, so it's logical to expect they would exist again in Windows 10 Mobile.

There are already feedback items regarding both of these with many upvotes, I expect we will see it corrected (or explained at least) at some point. Find them in the feedback and vote for them.

Oh that is just a bug. Try updating the app and reinstalling it. Maybe even hard reset? I had that problem a while ago but it's gone now

Windows 10 for mobile phones is not yet officially released and that's why office mobile is not yet free. The moment it's officially launched office for devices with smaller screens will be free, with full editing capacity

Same here, used to work just fine once logged on to MS account, but no keeps asking for 365 on all office apps. Is this the end of free?
